dtrs5kprs Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Greatly appreciate the info on Gliss. That is very much in line with a lot of reviews on it. Probably not a good finesse line.
Members HardHead Posted February 10, 2016 Author Members Posted February 10, 2016 I just started playing around with braid to fluoro last year, uni to uni is the only knot I messed with until now. I had 10# braid to 6# fluoro and kept breaking off at the knot. Agree, that shaw grigsby knot looks a bit easier to tie than the uni to uni. Thanks pepe dtrs5kprs 1
GNSfishing Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I've been using braid to fluorocarbon leaders for 4/5 years now, love it. I have tried several knots and have decided that the Albright knot works best for me. The only got you in tying the Albright is you must put the tag end back through the loop the same way that you came through on the start of the knot and be sure to wet the knot before you pull it tight and trim the remaining tag ends. I use this knot on all of my equipment, spinning and casting reels with Nanofil and braid line. I like a color of braid/Nanofil that I can see as I'm a line watcher. Love the no stretch properties of braid, just set your drag tensions accordingly to prevent hook pull out.
m&m Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I have to say that I have never tied a smaller line to a heavier line, braid or otherwise. A long time ago someone told me that the weakest point is still the # size of the leader. His philosophy was that if you have 6# line on the whole spool or just the leader and you hook into a large fish you still have to play it as 6# line. Reading everyone's posts here I'm wondering if you get more hook ups with the smaller leader and do those result in more landings of the fish or more break offs? I certainly don't need any more help losing fish I have hooked. I'm just curious. Mike

Add in the fact that a $20 spool 100% fluoro will last a lot longer with braid to fluoro, and I'm sold. My knot breaks almost exclusively come when trying to get unsnagged. I've only had the knot snap on a fish one time - and someone else was using my setup. dan hufferd 1
m&m Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Hardhead, in 2015 switched to the palomar knot exclusively for Flouro and braid and (knock on wood) I did not have a knot snap on a fish. I also switched to BPS 100% flouro and Seaguar braid so I am not sure which is the reason for the knots holding. I don't think it has anything to do with the small size bass I am catching. lol Mike

It is always actually windy up here; tying a knot in the breezes they call wind on TR is easy. Ham 1
