When these petered out, we went off to try and duplicate it in very similar locations but got no love. Such is winter fishing. It can often be a lot more about a specific location than a pattern. Stopped by our honey hole on the way back in about 4:00 and managed one more keeper to give us a five-fish limit for about 13 pounds. Stick bait, jig and Rock Crawler did the work. Speaking only for myself, my concerns last year about our largemouth population have been resolved over the past 2-3 weeks. Over the past 5-6 trips, I've had some of the best LM fishing I've seen in quite a while on this lake. Lots of quality 2.5 to 4-pound fish and they are just healthy as horses. Even the males have fat guts from feeding up for the upcoming spawn. We are truly blessed to have this wonderful fishery at our disposal. Have kind of come to the conclusion we still have a lot of largemouth, but they just don't fish the same as they used to. Takes a lot more color, or weather, than it once did. huntest 1

Clients rod guides were still freezing at 12 PM. Had to put the fly rods down as the line kept freezing on the back cast. It was like they were trying to throw a frozen rope. I guess they were. I don't know how inspiring we are. Didn't launch until 11. lol We were planning on fishing today instead of Saturday. I wasn't feeling well Friday night. Felt better after we got up and started moving around, so decided to make a trip anyway. Sounds like a rough guide trip. Warmer weather coming. Rod was fine. Caught fish. I'm amazed that the kid from Bation Rouge can handle the cold better than some locals. dtrs5kprs 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. merc1997 Bo Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 nice trip for a cold day. you are right about seeing some 4's show up with more regularity now. but, i still do not believe the entire lake is blessed with them. there seems to be certain areas of the lake that are more fish rich than others. linda and i got out for a couple of hours saturday afternoon. she gave me a spanking with a nice 3 and another fattie keeper. she caught her first bass while running the troller too. i told her to not get too good at that or she just might inherit doing the guiding while i just fish. bo Champ188, dtrs5kprs and Donna G 3
Macsimus Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Great report Champ. Struggling with immense jealousy at the moment. I guess I need to stop reading these... Champ188 and dtrs5kprs 2 "There was a time that I didn't fish, but I cannot remember it."

Hope you guys aren't to ruff on newbies!!! Looking at the weather now, Saturday into Sunday, 40% chance of storms Sunday, the opportunity is there I would think. Champ188 1
