eyedabassman Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Is the Lew's fishing line any good? I was looking at there web site and I didn't know that they had line.
Sore Thumbs Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I didn't know they made any either til I was at Cabela's the other day. I would be cautious about buying that line until it was determined to be good or not.
Champ188 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Best way to tell if it fits your needs is to buy a spool and see how it performs under your style of fishing. At the worst you're out $10 for a spool of mono or $20 for carbon. shark bait 1
Old plug Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I have been using pro bass excell for many many years with no problems. Of course that is not the cool thing to do I realize but it works for me. Only other line I use is 10 lb brais and I could not tell you the name of the last spool I bought of it. I think it was Spiderwaire what line cost does not really matter to me. 90 % at least of the linesare made by a few companies.wth a few proceedures. Then spooled onto someones trade mark spool. Bigmo Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I've been using the Hi Seas brand of lines of fluorocarbon, co-polymer and mono for a year and haven't had a problem. Some of their lines are really inexpensive where you can change them out often if need be. Champ188 1
Champ188 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Couldn't agree more, Old Plug. I started using the 6-pound Excel mono on my spinning reels when one of the top tournament anglers ever in NW Arkansas personally recommended it. He's not sponsored by Bass Pro Shops ... in fact, the only sponsor he has at all is War Eagle ... so he wasn't pimping Excel line. Through the years, I can hardly recall any break-offs on it. And it's cheap enough that you can afford to change it often, as ANY spinning line is going to twist and wear over a fairly short period of time. I later decided to try the heavier Excel line (17 and 20 pound) for my spinner baits and topwaters. Can't tell that I've lost any performance from P-Line CXX and again, it's much cheaper and allows me to change more frequently. I'm not sure how many actual line factories are out there, but Plug is on the button about there only being a few and that a lot of different brand lines are made in the same facility. I use Cabela's store brand fluorocarbon and I can assure you that Cabela's does not have a line factory. Neither does BPS. dtrs5kprs, Muddy Water, shark bait and 1 other 4
Unimog Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Last I knew bps fluorocarbon was made by Toray, which is one of only a handful of FC line makers. I always buy it when it's buy 2 get one free and it's not too expensive that way. As long as lews isn't repackaged Berkley vanish it's worth a try. eyedabassman 1
moguy1973 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Someone on here said they had been using the Lew's line. Babler maybe? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Smalls21 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 awhile back on one of Babler's post about his A-rig setup, he mentioned that he had started using Lew's braid. I would venture to say if he is using it, it's probably pretty good stuff shark bait 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Lews braid works great, I have it on a couple spinning reels. I threw a friends new tournment pro reel with the mono and i definitely wont be buying any of it. The 12lb pound test was so stiff
