Ketchup Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I wondered the same thing. Just figured TR had a few, but had never seen any personally. Thanks for sharing. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
mjk86 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I've often wondered what to do with removed fish that I don't want to eat? With me it's culling crappie less that 7 inches long. I'm not cleaning 50 6 inch fish, but dumping them in the woods behind the house seems wasteful. I don't think that stripers/whites are particularly good Table fare, anytime I'm told to cut out red meat and soak it in buttermilk or something no thanks. Sunfish eat much better. Champ188 1

If you are unhappy with the size crappie you are catching, change locations. Crappie can school by size. Good numbers of small fish is a good sign that there are more keepers in the pipeline. If I found out someone was keeping sub legal crappie to thin the herd, I would call Wildlife and Fisheries and see IF I could arrange a visit. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Agreed in full on the culinary value of whites/stripers. I'd far rather eat crappie, walleye or bluegill. 176champion 1
Sprint21fter Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 James Miles caught a 40-50 lb striper up the white a few years back on an A-rig. Champ188 1

Ive havent tried to catch crappie outta table rock, and id imagine with the relatively small numbers in the lake, they grow rather large. I know at stockton they run pretty nice. Id imagine the table rock size profile is similar. There are some ponds by me where i think i could use a cast net and catch 100 crappie 5-7 inches long. In those lakes I often catch my limit, but only a handful will be worth cutting up. Its only about 25 acres, and i think that if my brother and I kept our limit everytime, regardless of size, we could change the lake profile and get a higher percentage of bigger fish. Although...If we did that should we throw back the really big ones? Or would it make any difference? guess there is only one way to find out. Its stupid how full of crappie they are. On a side note...seems like the only crappie reports outta table rock are up the creek arms as they head in to spawn. Guessing that summer crappie spots are not really talked about too much by folks who know where to find em. Ive always expected to catch one as a by-catch while trolling, but never happened.
Ham Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Crappie in smaller lakes and ponds have a tendency to over populate. Tough to have the right of species. It was my understanding that it is NOT recommended to stock crappie in private ponds because of that. I don't know that Table Rock is known as a good crappie lake although some guys definitely do well there and I have caught a handful of really nice crappie out of Table Rock. I have caught some decent bass on ultra light gear while crappie fishing and they were more than a handful. Can't imagine that beast on light rod/reel/line. Nice job!

Landing that fish must have taken someone with mad netting skills. Nice fish Jimmy
