Donna and I fished bankers' hours Sunday ... 9 to 5. As Bill reported earlier, it was not an easy day. We ended up with 20 total fish, including 4 keepers, the largest of which was a fat 3.5-pound LM. Also had a pretty 16-inch spot. The others were just 15-inch LM males.

Donna caught one on a Wart. Everything else was on spinnerbaits.

Did see some 63-degree water late in the afternoon way back off the main lake.

Thanks Champ for the report, it sounds like it is tough for everyone right now.  Sounds like you guys did better than most.

Champ, thanks for the information. That spinnerbait bite is right there for sure.

Thanks, guys. It was just a matter of finding the warmest water we could and pounding a few into submission.

I've always believed there are two ways to go when fishing gets tough. You can go the finesse route and try to feed them a smaller bite, or you can keep flinging the bling at them (usually a spinnerbait for me) and provoke as many reaction strikes as you can. I like the latter, provided there are enough fish shallow that you can run your bait by a bunch until one of them bites. Pinpoint casting also is key at times like this.

What color, blade, blade color, and size? I always throw crankbaits in those situations. I need to get familiar with the Spinnerbait. Will Chatterbait work in same exact areas where spinnerbait is working? If you don't want to give too specific answer on first question I understand. Thank you.

Congratulations, but I wouldn't call that a bad day.  We are head that way in the morning and hope to have better luck then last week.

I don't know how you managed that wind all day Champ, I reckon when your catching some fish it makes even the worse conditions more unnoticeable. Good day for you two.

No problem with specifics on the bait ... War Eagle 3/8-ounce gold frame with double willows (kicker blade nickel, main blade gold) and a hot blue herring skirt. I don't know about the chatterbait deal ... I'm bullheaded as the day is long on that blade. Once I pick it up, I don't experiment much with other stuff. It's a commitment bait if there ever was one.

I've been pretty much the same. My dad caught a huge bass from a small hole on a spinnerbait when I was 8. So it always surprises me when somebody mentions not using them very much. At 8 years old THAT was the only thing I was throwing. Nothing against you Sore Thumbs at all, but use it, learn it. It's a great bait that is very versatile. It's not the cast and wind bait that some people think it is. It does require some skill to get the most out of it. Some days it's going to break your heart but it rewards well.
