SplitG2 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Good stuff Ham, thanks for sharing. Mind if I ask what colors they did or did not like?...assume they were mostly on the light head?

Mind if I ask what colors they did or did not like?...assume they were mostly on the light head? Split...we threw about every option at them. Usually if they are touchy on that bait a small adjustment gets things back on track. Color, line size, head size, scent. Not so much right now. Some are eating it, some not. Most of mine were on pbj and the 1/8. Today was a 1/16 and green day. Lot of them are just fiddling with it. Have some ideas as to why, but that is for another post. Too late tonight, still have re-tie to get done. SplitG2 1
dtrs5kprs Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 And Ham summed the fishing up exactly as I did to someone else. Fish were equally likely to be in 3' as 20' on the same point. The rest was far too kind. Ham's a good dude, a good stick, and fun to share a boat with. Today was a different day entirely... Muddy Water 1
Ham Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Glad you got on them better today. That's what I get for trying to potluck your fish. I knew my numbers would be down during the OI and I was hoping to buffer that. Much has been said back and forth about his Seaguar vs my nanofil. I could not spot much of a difference in bites really. I can tell you one thing. He sets the hook VERY Hard with 6 lb line no less. He doesn't break off because he has a very well matched set up. I do have plans to set up a combo with 6 lb Seaguar for windy days. I have zero other concerns about Nanofil. Champ188, mixermarkb and dtrs5kprs 3 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. You have to bust them. I was pretty worried about splitting Ham's head open with the rod. I threw braid most of the day Wednesday. Had to with the version of the Ned I was throwing. Just can't throw it on mono or fluoro. Too light. 25' casts at 90 degrees to the bank were the deal. If it works today I'll put up some info. It may have been a one off. magicwormman 1
Mitch f Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I would think you would have to use your anchor quite a bit, using the Ned rig and thoroughly working an area the way you guys do. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Ham Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 I use a wind sock a lot and I am strongly considering adding a second one mixermarkb and Mitch f 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I have to admit I tinkered a lot last weekend. I like the braid/leader for sensitivity and strong quick hook sets, but struggled fighting the wind with braid and messed around with boat position to account for it which took productive time away. I also tinkered with knots from blood to FG and Shaw Grigsby's that was shared recently. Moving forward I plan to have 2 set ups. One with straight seaguar 6 and one with power pro and leader using Shaw's knot. 1/16 vs 1/8 head played a role with various set ups as well. dtrs5kprs, Champ188 and mixermarkb 3
