Needing help with a ned rig problem

Hi guys and gals.  My name is Joe and I have been a long time reader, but finally joined.  I really got into fishing the Ned rig earlier this year...with lots of success in southern Arkansas btw!!!....thanks to dtrs5kprs (David)!!!! I'm just looking for a little insight into an issue I have had the last couple trips with the ned rig.  I have started getting a lot of line twist in my line (6 lb invizx).  I know what is causing most of it....because probably 5 out of 10 casts when I get the rig reeled back in, the tail has some how crossed around the hook, or rehooked the bait in a funny position.  But most of the time its like someone took that tail and wrapped it back around the bend of the hook...if that makes any sense.  I did not notice this the first couple times out with it, but the last 2 trips its been happening a lot.  Any ideas what I am doing to cause this.  Perhaps I made up a few that I did not get straight enough or did not thread on the hook enough or something.  Or is this kinda common, and I just didn't notice it much at first because of all the fish it was catching?  Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using some sort of super-glue to hold the plastic onto the jighead?  If it's that your plastic is sliding down and causing twist and/or fouling the hook, that'd be my first suggestion.

I see that every time I fish one, but it usually happens when a fish grabs it and I swing and miss.  Could be, like you are saying, the bait isn't rigged on there straight.  If I had a bait that was doing that a lot, I'd cut it off and try another.  Could be bluegills jacking around with it, but you should be able to feel them when they bite it.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I am using super glue gel.  Maybe I didn't get a few rigged straight enough or something.  I've only had it out about 5 trips....and that has resulted in about 5 baits because they last so long.  So, maybe I need to get better with the rigging.

Have that happen as well sometimes. I think it is just part of it. When ever I get enough twist in my line that it is bothersome; I just cut the lure off and let all the line out while the boat is moving so it is dragging straight behind the boat. Reel it back in and the twist will be gone.

Yep what hunter53 said. I let a lot out, more than what you need.

Welcome Slyguy.  The line twists could be from the size of spool. What reel/size are you using?  The wider the better. It's then compounded by the tail getting twisted on the hook and coming back to the boat doing barrel rolls.  Gotta make sure it's rigged as straight as possible. Could also be the rod. Depending on how it loads when you cast could make for a more violent send off. Don't need to try and throw it a mile. Just get it out the and let it do its thing.  Could also go to braid with the flouro leader but that can be tricky at times.

Thanks guys.  I did consider going braid/flouro because that is the combo I use on ALL my other spinning reels and LOVE it....except in the wind...and that is all we have had here lately.  I wanted to give the straight flouro a good shot since it was the suggested line of choice.  I'll probably stick with it for a while.  Reel size probably is a contributing factor as well.  I have a Pfleugar President Limited Edition 6930 on that rod (carbonlite 6'9" ML).  Thanks for all the help.

Equipment shouldn't be an issue. Anything better IMO would really be trying to reach perfection. Would stick with Hunters advice when needed and work on rigging the little guy as straight/true as possible.

Line twist is why I built a baitcasting rod for the Ned. MHX SJ8600 blank rated for 6-12 line and 1/16 to 3/8 ounce lures. I have 5 lb. Maxima on the reel. I no longer have line twist, provided I get the worm on straight. I urge you all to rethink your equipment.
