I have just had time to hunt one spot, I did not find any today, but I did jump a hen turkey sitting on 5 eggs. I was 4 feet from her before she jumped. I would like to add this walk took place after church, God first.

My rule of thumb, if it hits 80, then its done.  My last one was in TN 3 weeks ago.  Not much happened here this year.  It got too warm, too quick.  They like day and night averages in the 50's.  We had a short window of that.

Yeah they are pretty much done here in SWMO.  I hunt them daily for the entire season every year, and have a lot of morel beds I check.  I found 3 yesterday and 1 rotten  today.  There are still spots out there that have them, but most will be to bad to find or eat.  Right now your best bet to find fresh morels is checking big oak trees on north facing hills.  Like was mentioned above, 80 degrees and they are done.

Thanks, know any others to hunt, I know about chickens and hens, but not much else. There is wood ear fungus everywhere here.

Dan - there are going to be plenty of edibles coming in over the next couple of months if we continue to get those light rains. Chanterelles are some of my favorites and they usually begin showing up early June. If you can find them early enough, bearded tooth (aka lions mane, hedgehog, etc.) mushrooms are really good just when they emerge. Take al look at Billethead's posts from last year. He has great photos and you'll have the time of year down for your neck of the woods.

I miss several things from when we lived in London, although I was very glad to come home. One of the things I miss the most is the twice per week open air market at the Burrough tube stop (basically on the opposite bank of the Thames from the Bank district of London). The best produce from the UK and Europe, fresh caught fish and shell fish, grass fed beef and pork, Gressingham ducks, French wines, berries, and a mushroom vendor who featured the finest varieties of champignon (French for mushrooms). Chantrelles appeared frequently. They have a rich taste hard to beat.

Spring Chickens are out now. Have seen several while driving to work, but not a favorite of mine. Cant wait for chants...pretty easy to hunt. Oak Hickory woods after a rain, when its hot. Usually up in abundance around Father's day, but available until fall.

I have only found one chanterelle in my life. On a rock bluff over looking Shoal creek it was black. Thank you all for the help.

Geez, the chanterelles were incredible last year; unless your part of the world was a lot different than mine, you couldn't stumble into the woods without stepping on them.  I don't expect this year to be that good.

I read in one book that the smooth chants aren't nearly as good as the ribbed ones.  We found a lot of both and just mixed them together.  Does anybody else think the smooths are inferior?
