Members adelris Posted May 6, 2016 Members Posted May 6, 2016 Dad was visiting in town so i decided to take him Crappie/Bass fishing on Lake 35 after reading some of the posts on this forum. Was around 7 AM on an overcast day, and was hoping to catch me a decent Bass, and make sure my dad had some fun. Having only been on the lake once I was heading straight across from the boats so my dad decided to put his Clown in the water while we made are way towards the spot i wanted to fish, then BAM. Took about an hour to get this in, and since we didnt have a net I had to maneuver the boat all the way back to shore just to land the thing. Didn't catch any crappie (was using medium minnows under a slip bobber, dont really know what i am doing tbh), but did catch around 10 small bass. One day ill catch a nice Bass out of busch (tired of lake 33 letting me down), but glad I was able to give my dad a good time. Side note that muskie was released back in that lake for the next angler to give it a go =) Greasy B, Daryk Campbell Sr, Big Keene and 8 others 11
mjk86 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Holy moly!!!!!!!!! Wow this is Def not what I was expecting to see! Get a measurement? I've seen some pics of lots of 35 musky and that's by far the biggest yet. That's seriously like a fish of a lifetime. Congrats on that fish, way to go dad!! Casting and drifting small jigs will put you on crappie at 35. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Members adelris Posted May 6, 2016 Author Members Posted May 6, 2016 My dad was so worried about the muskie going into shock being out of the water he didn't measure it nor did we have the tools. We estimate it was at least 50'' + give or take. Was caught on a clown rapalla with 6lb test line (bass fishing setup.) Might head out this weekend to do some crappie/bass fishing. Ill try out 1/32 jigs, just not sure what to put on them. TBH MJK it was your posts that lead me to hit 35 up, and cant thank enough. Daryk Campbell Sr and JUNGLE JIM 1 2
Big Keene Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Awesome fish!!!! this time of year, any 2" jig or curly tail grub should work. we've been using Keitech Swing Impacts, but they shouldnt be too picky now. play with colors till you find what they're looking for, also, tipping the jig with a crappie nibble doesnt hurt. just slow troll or wind drift, and hang on!!!!!!!!!!!!! Illegitimi non carborundum (Never let the bastards grind you down)
Mitch f Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I've never even seen one of the "Mythical" Muskeys of lake 35. That is awesome! Daryk Campbell Sr 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Members UseUrHeadFred Posted May 6, 2016 Members Posted May 6, 2016 Very impressive! Some people have made thousands of casts over years trying to catch a fish like that. Congratulations! mjk86 1

There are a few fellers ive talked to that can catch em with semi frequency...Ive seen a few pics, seen 1 caught, and caught 1 myself....none were even remotely the size of that one though. Id guess most are between 25 and 35 inches long.

Good on him for getting that fish back ASAP, those things are def rare in 35, especially those size ones. If your interested in the crappie, go back and take a look at my crappie reports over the last year or two. I spell out exactly what i do.....exactly the same thing as Big Keene, like he said, this time of year, probably any 2-3 inch paddle tail swimmin minnow. It works awesome on most of the lakes up there
