DADAKOTA Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Did the crappie trolling bite ever pick up? Pulled cranks the week after Memorial day and did not do to well. Thinking of heading down this weekend.
LoweSTX175 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I had brief success on the second weekend in June earlier in the mornings (6:30) trolling cranks. Seemed like they would shut down completely by 8:30 each day when the sun was starting to shine. I haven't been back since. They were suspended in 35-40 foot of water out in the open. So I'm not really sure how they are doing right now.
PHhunter Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I trolled some yesterday. Zero luck. But I am not very good at it. I will say the big bluegill are biting and a person can catch a lot of those if you want.
top_dollar Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I went a few weeks ago and also struggled when I expected to be catching em...I was pulling flicker shads in spawning coves 15-17ft down. Only caught 10 keepers and 4 keeper walleye in 2 days.
top_dollar Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Walleye were biting good on jigs and crawlers on the main lake for what it's worth. dan hufferd 1
dan hufferd Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Crappie trolling is not as good as it was last year. I have about quit trolling for anything. If the wind kicks up it might get good??
nomolites Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 This time of year I look for clouds of suspended fry - the crappie will be there. I was on LOZ Satirday just test running things after PMing them and trolling conditions with clouds of fry looked awesome although I did not have time to try it. On my 'Bird fry look turbulence with some form to it and will have a few larger crappie returns nearby - usually near the thermocline this late if there is one. Get a bright crank bait to that depth at 1.7 mph and you should catch some fatties. Agree though that this year has been a bit off - I usually see what I was seeing Saturday in late May/early June. Old plug Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 The under light bite was very hot on LOZ this past weekend between 1-4 AM dan hufferd 1
fishinwrench Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 I caught a big ol'slab this evening while cranking a 12' brushpile for bass. How big? Big enough to completely engulf a DD-22! dan hufferd 1

Played the bottom bouncer with a slow death rig last weekend. Very slow. Only managed 3 keepers. Spent 1 morning in the State Park area and one around Hartley. The walleye I caught were all in 20 feet of water. Guess I should have tried a jig and crawler. Remember to open your box of crawlers before buying them. My wife picked up 2 boxes for me at Caseys. When I opened one of them the crawlers were dead.
