Alex Heitman Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Caught this girl this morning at about 1030 on a crank. Caught lots of other fish too. Had probably 6 keepers. Going to go back after here in about 30 mins Flysmallie, Donna G, cheesemaster and 15 others 18
m&m Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Alex, nice fish and healthy looking too. 10:30am......hmmm.....that's when most of us give up due to the humidity and the pleasure boaters. Congratulations another nice fish. You must have a ton of waypoints marking all the >5 lb fish you've caught in the past couple of years. Well done. Mike big c 1
Quillback Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Good one Alex! BTW I recognize that tree in the background. Hooking up the boat in a few minutes... abkeenan, huntest, Alex Heitman and 3 others 6
abkeenan Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Alex I know you are a cranking machine and I think I may try my hand a little more "power fishing". What gear ratio are you typically cranking on? I currently have 2 crank setups and both have a low 5's:1 ratios but wanted to get your opinion on that since you're Alex "Fritts" Heitman. I see a lot of BASS pro's that like to crank on 6:1 or even 7:1 reels which seems to go against conventional thinking for cranking. magicwormman 1
Champ188 Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Pretty fish, my friend. Great job of hammering out a good sack of keepers against the odds.
Alex Heitman Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Thanks guys. Abkeenan I almost always use a 7:1 gear ratio and it most likely is a lews BB1 pro because it launches a bait a country mile haha. When the water is cold I just have to slow down a lot. It's not what a lot of the guys do but I've learned that way and it works for me. I like the faster ratio for the dragging technique I use like Dave Barker. You can pick up slack really quick. dtrs5kprs and magicwormman 2
Donna G Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I see you are dressed appropriately for the weather, too. lol Donna Gilzow Bella Vista, Arkansas The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. --John Buchan, 1915
Alex Heitman Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Donna I was dressed well but unfortunately I applied the sunscreen to the shoulders to late and have a terrible sunburn haha
