I am thinking about making a day long trip to Stockton this week one day. I am super interested to catch a few walleyes. However, I have no idea what I am doing in regards to walleye fishing. I have caught a verrrry occasional walleye while bass or crappie fishing over the years, but I want to target walleyes on this trip. I have been reading all of the awesome advice on this forum all summer long, but I still could use some more advice, especially for this time of the year.

Should I troll crawler rigs? Deep diving cranks? Cast jigs? What would you advise for a trip this week? I'd really like to get a few eyes in the livewell.

I haven't fished Stockton in a couple weeks, but when I did here is how it went...it was HOT, got out early (dawn) I like the spoon but that is just me and there is a learning curve. I fish steep rocky drop offs near main channel swings from 5 to 25 feet deep, some fish are suspended over deep water near points.

Be ready to have all the fishing methods you listed at your disposal, you will need it. The bite was over by 10 am. With the cooler weather and rain they many hit a little later in the day. An over cast day with a little wind should be ideal for an all day bite.

Good luck I like big rocks (that's a clue)

No expert...but trolling crankbaits and jigs tipped with crawlers is hard to beat and easy to do this time of year in Stockton.  Drag crankbaits that will run 15 to 20 feet deep (even deeper sometimes), and jig worms on main lake points, humps and islands.  Jigging worms and spoons early and late works, but also I often do well with walleye in the middle of the day trolling crankbaits at 3mph or even faster.  I almost always fish between the twin bridges and the mile long bridge,  but those techniques work for me there.

Is there another name for the mile long bridge and the twin bridges, not very familiar with Stockton

      Thanks

Mile long bridge is HWY 215 bridge just up the Big Sac from the confluence with the Little Sac.  Twin bridges is further up the Big Sac by mutton creek/Ruark bluff area and are the highways H and Y bridges.

I agree with Top Dollar.  Troll some crank baits at 15-18' at about 1.8 - 2 MPH.  I hear tip jigs with crawlers.... I tip road runners the same way with either a leech or a crawler.  I prefer leeches because I won't have to deal with the dirt in the boat.  If you do this cast them out and let them sink to the bottom and simply keep your line tight and jig up periodically.  Areas to target right now are tough for me to judge.  I haven't been on Stockton in a little over a month or so.  So I have no idea where to go at the moment.

I went yesterday and fished pretty much all day. I didn't manage to catch any walleyes. The small bass were on fire. I was catching small bass, both largemouth and smallmouth, all day. Lots of surface activity. I stayed focused though on trying to catch walleyes, I just never managed to hook into any.

I'll have are to make the trip down there again sometime so that I might hook into a few of those tasty beasts.
