Champ188 Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Nearly lost one of my top-shelf Redfins to a dadgum gar a couple of years ago. A 4-footer. Maybe more. Was fishing a hole recommended by Babler. I still wonder if I got pranked. abkeenan, merc1997 Bo, Daryk Campbell Sr and 3 others 6

I hope I'm wrong, or lots of people are going to be disappointed. I think it's almost impossible for them to get the two ploppers before the submerged hook. They are attacking from below or behind and will almost ALWAYS attack the rear bait or straggler.
Guest Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 If they're difficult to tune, then I want no part of that. They should've used titanium like 24/7 was saying. I might sell mine & buy a couple more little ploppers

Champ188 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I'm with you 24/7. I usually try to get my bait away from them but this stupid thing came up out of the middle of a cedar tree like a darn bass. magicwormman 1
176champion Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Last Sunday evening i had a gar chasing my wiggle wart...he followed it right up to the boat.. Donna G 1 I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
Donna G Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Back in the day (seventies), all us Texas anglers threw a lipless crank bait by Bomber called a Pinfish. It was obligatory to have at least one each white, chrome and black. Most of us fished shallow year-round and in a lot dirtier water than TR. You could hurl the Pinfish a mile and it was often a mad dash back to the boat when a gar spotted that chrome one up in the muddy shallows. I'd be cranking so hard on my Ted Williams Ambassador 5000 that the crankbait was skipping across the surface and you could still see the gar charging. lol Fun times. magicwormman, Quillback, Fish24/7 and 1 other 4 Donna Gilzow Bella Vista, Arkansas The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. --John Buchan, 1915
Fish24/7 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Donna I have some of those in white. I always wondered what they were called. All I knew about them was they were Bomber made. ty
