Quillback Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I did not say all tourneys are bad. Absolutely there are some that do a great jo of taking care of their fish. And my hat is off to those that do. Just trying to understand how you could be against regulation changes that could help fish survival - I'm not talking about shutting down tourneys at all. Members slowbait Posted August 30, 2016 Members Posted August 30, 2016 This may help some fisherman to keep fish healthy, ..................... Cool water in your live well (around 70 degr) fish rejuvenate or stay alive added in live well, needle fish that turn on their side after putting in live well, within 5 min. ( needle in the side not the mouth, you can see video on internet how to do this.) aerate the live well all the time. If you have a fish thats bleeding pour some mt. dew down its mouth. that stops the bleeding instantly Quillback 1
Members slowbait Posted August 30, 2016 Members Posted August 30, 2016 Ok quillback, sorry I misunderstood you. But I do agree with you that some tourneys need to be policed. My partner and I have not lost a fish all year to not taking care of our fish and we fish two tourneys a week. If anyone has any questions I will be more than happy to help them keep their fish healthy. I my not have all the answers but saving a few fish will help. Quillback and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Quillback Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Maybe make that as part of the tourney rules during the summer, every boat has to have a bag of ice, some rejuvenate, and instructions on use.
Members slowbait Posted August 30, 2016 Members Posted August 30, 2016 I Agree with you on that quillback. Very much agree. You dont know how hard myself and Dean push these helpful hints during the tourneys we participate in. And stay an hour or so after the tourneys to needle or help fish survive. We have even put some back in a good livewell to help revive fish and it works well Champ188 and Quillback 2

But, I will do it for the bleeders. If I'm going to talk the talk, I gotta walk the walk.
Members slowbait Posted August 30, 2016 Members Posted August 30, 2016 LOL Its amazing how that Mt Dew works but it does. Its good for something.
jim m Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 sadly I feel a lot of the fishermen that fish the small derbys don't care about the the welfare of the fish just ma chance to make a check. floaters after the weigh ins certainly supports this view point. I was in a club that put on a charity tournement for years and there was always a release boat present with huge treated tanks and people that new how to revive fish. this will piss off some people but I feel that if you can't provide this resource at a tourny then you have no bussiness holding one Champ188 1
Champ188 Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Pretty much with you, Jim. Some of these little summertime night derbies are killing too many fish, and the evidence is strong afterward at the ramps. It's certainly better if the group "cleans up" after itself and takes the dead ones home, but every one that dies is just one less fish the rest of us have a chance to catch next time out. And before anyone says it would be just as gone if they'd just been fishing for a meal, tournament anglers are supposed to be conservation leaders. Those who haphazardly toss their fish back into shallow, hot, oxygen-poor water beside the ramp and drive off are doing nothing but abusing the resource for the chance at a few bucks. No one needs that. jim m, magicwormman and vernon 3
bluebasser86 Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I fish with a small group of guys on little lakes around the KC area and we do kind of like the MLF style except it's still your biggest 5. Much easier on the fish that way and it has allowed guys in johnboats and even 2 mans to fish with us on occasion. "Releasing" dead or dying fish makes us all look bad. jim m and Champ188 2
