Jug Line ediquette

My wife and I have drifted the same 1/2 mile section of LOZ for the past 4 years. I've never seen a jug line there. This weekend (labor day) someone decided to put 15 jug lines in this area. This is the NARROW area of the lake near Warsaw an with all the tubers I thought this was extremely inconsiderate. But my question is ... if we were to drift this section as we usually do and happen to hook his jug line .... do i cut his line or mine?

Anchored jugs or free floaters?   Either way the right thing for you to do is stay clear of them.

Yes, stay clear. Most jug lines have 1lb weights on them. No need to cut anything. If you tangle in one, just untangle and throw it back out.

Anchored. Thanks for the response but I don't see a reason to stay clear. Just cause someones lined a 1/2 mile with jug lines doesn't mean its "HIS" territory.  One dude has ( not sure what its called), but he has his line anchored from one side ALL the way over to the other side. Must be some heavy line cause My anchor snagged it (I didn't know it ran across the lake like that). I had to cut my anchor cause I couldn't bring it up. I stay away from that now that I know its there. I'll piss a lot of people off here but I think jug lines are a lazy way to fish and deplete the population faster than necessary. I'm ALWAYS snagging on OLD JUG LINES carelessly left behind. Pisses me off.  I know many will agree,

Active jugs simply avoid them just as if it were somebody fishing from a boat, no big deal.  If you snag one, just unhook from it and toss it back.  Really its not a big deal.    Limb lines, jug line, trotlines, etc.  All perfectly legal methods of fishing, just respect those who do it and expect them to respect your way of fishing.

Yeah if they are left and unmonitored then they are nothing but litter. 

Get the name or conservation number off of the one that's stretched clear across the channel and report it to MDC. That's not cool, and besides the MDC agents desperately need something to do, they haven't EARNED a paycheck in awhile.

You know RSPauls, this doesn't piss me off as much as it makes me laugh.  We all do our own kind of fishing.  I crappie and white bass fish with pole and line.  I have had people tell me I'm crazy to chase the whites cause they are "trash fish".   I can tell you, jug fishermen aren't lazy.  I jug fish in the heat of the summer and I leave them unattended (gasp!).  I study the regulations as much as I study the lake, I am legal because I anchor them. To each his own, I can't hardly stand tournament fisherman.  Putting a boat in the water on a Friday or Saturday evening at Mill Creek on the Rock is suicide because of their night tournament crowding the cove then they go out there and scare off all my catfish.  But I don't get on here and whine and cry about it.  They do their thing, I do mine.  Your statement only drives home your arrogance and lack of initiative to try any thing different than you already know.  But, to add to the conversation, if a jug has been left unattended for over an hour unanchored or 24 hours if it is anchored it is illegal and should be reported.  Especially if it is hot outside a catfish won't live very long on a line.

Umm .....Stuart .... makes me laugh too! Accuse me of whining then a sentence later you do your share of whinning. LOZ where I'm located is more river like than lake, narrow and limited space for fishing and watersports due to sandbars. I can easily troll around the jugs but I never know how long the lines are so if I tangle I'll decide what to do at that time. I was more concerned with all the lake traffic (tubers) on the lake. It's narrow enough as it is and this dude decides to put all these jugs out this weekend. Inconsiderate if you ask me. If you jug use yer brain and don't set them on busy weekends. And I still think jugging is lazy. I'll put  money that there's a large jugging population that pushes the "legal" to "illegal" .... as you stated you do!

i have ny share of jugging around me. never bothers me on the lest. I do not know what is going on up there but ot sounds like some people being arrogant. if it happened here. No worry something would happened to the equipment.

Umm, excuse me.  First, my jug lines are more than legal.  I don't push any issues when fishing.  You need to brush up on your regulations if you think what I do is pushing the limit.  That's funny.  Second, re read my post.  I am a laid back individual and I work my hind end off at work and at play.  To say that what I do is lazy is laughable.  You think I'm lazy I think you have a problem with arrogance.  You cut my jug line and you are the illegal fisherman.  You so much as pull up a jug line that isn't yours you are illegal.  BTW, I spend most of my time on LOZ.  I only go to Table Rock when the summer traffic gets bad.  There are good and bad fishermen of every style.  My reference to Mill Creek was only to point out that we all have our pet peeves.  I could get on here every time I get home from fishing and whine and cry but I don't.  Get over yourself, do what you enjoy and leave everyone else alone.  If someone gets your spot first, find another.  It's that simple.
