I own what has become a three pack of Mother's Octoberfest Marzen Lager.

Late entrants: 

Entrants are (l. to r.) Free State (Lawrence, KS), Goose Island (Chicago), Schlafly (StL), Mother’s (Springfield), Bell’s (MI) and Sam Adams. 

Edit: Late entrants are Sierra Nevada, Spaten (Germany, back where it all began) and Boulevard (KC). 

Free State is rated very high, I think #2 for style, on Ratebeer.com. I know Sam Adams is very good. I won’t report each time I drink one, but will post a summary. Read it if you care.

Alright, results are in. The hand’s down favorite was Spaten from Germany. Very malty, full bodied and light on the hop. All the American ones were thinner with hop ranging from light to heavy. Sam Adams took second easily. Free State, Boulevard and Mother’s were all very good. None were bad.

Works great if you manage to hit the sweet spot. Too little or too much and nothing's gonna happen.

I recently found an adult beverage that I really like.  On the night we put our old Border Collie down I sid I needed some liquid support for the rest of the night.  Stopped at a Brown Derby in Spfld to peruse the options, had to be something befitting the occasion.  Settled on a 12 yr old single malt scotch by Glenfiddich I believe.  Opened the bottle and oh my did it smell good.  Straight it was a bit more than I could handle, but cut with some coca cola and a couple nice cubes it was delicious.  A good double shot with coke will make my knees a little wobbly and has now become a staple once or twice a week, albeit in a smaller amount.  Good sipping beverage as I was the new Border Collie pup romp around the house.

Glenfiddich is very good. However, I urge you to come to the dark side. Buy Redbreast Irish at what ever price point suits you. Pour two fingers. Drop in a single ice cube if you must. I'll wait.
