WeekendWarrior Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Just saw on the news a record striper of 9 lb. 1 oz. was caught on Halloween. Thought record would be bigger than that?
fishinwrench Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 That is the "Alternative Methods" record. I'm pretty sure the pole and line record is over 20#
bluebasser86 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 A hybrid striper, or wiper. They don't get nearly as big as a pure striper does. Plus it was on a jugline instead of rod and reel so it was the alternative record like wrench said.
nomolites Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Alternate methods, yes. I have caught many larger from LOZ(up to around 15#) on pole and line. Mike
Johnsfolly Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Pole and line record is 20 lbs 8 oz. Caught in the Osage in 1986.

Old plug Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Iwas just talking to someone today about using shad when fishing for big Hybrids. I ise rhem in combination with a spoon Really I believe it is the effective way to catch them because they tend to stay so deep.
