Which is not as simple as it may seem for quite a while now. "The boat operator contended that although the motor was marked 40 hp, when the jet unit was added, horsepower was cut to about 25 hp, and therefore legal. District Ranger Bird conceded that this was a problem. The forest plan states that the horsepower is measured at the propeller shaft and that some manufacturers do have certified verification that altering to a jet unit does decrease output to around 25 hp. He recommended that all outboard motor users with altered engines carry manufacturer verification of horsepower decrease after alteration." http://www.areawidenews.com/story/1412420.html Tohatsu is doing well selling the 40/25, OMC stepped away from their 40/28 as above the restriction, Think Merc only has rated 25/20 and 60/40..... It is confusing to me for sure “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I have had minimal problems with the leaf sucking issue with my jets. I have a supreme with the 25 and a blazer with a 40. I mainly have kept the supreme for the fore mentioned restricted areas and some trout fishing. The supreme would serve you well, I've love mine. But I did get a chance to fish in zig jig mans topwater and is the sweetest looking trout boat there is. Good luck Bret There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
marcusearlt Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Never seen the fit/finish of a Topwater so I cannot comment on their quality, but I am certain it is excellent. In 2014 I ordered a new 1648 Shawnee with a Yamaha 40/30 and it exceeds my expectations, gets me where I want to go and keeps me comfortable while fishing. One thing to consider when buying new is if the manufacturer will work with you on custom mods and features that you want. Rob at Shawnee was very pleasant to work with and handled all my question/requests/ideas wonderfully. Stein Posted December 29, 2016 Author Posted December 29, 2016 Thanks for the insight fellas. I have a bit of time until spring so I'm still learning.
Ham Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 John, first and foremost, all the boats are relatively inexpensive, very useful, and very durable boats. My main recommendation would be to get a boat with at least a 48 inch bottom. . I love my boat, but I won't ever have another 42 inch bottom trout boat. you'll be happy with a Supreme, Shawnee, or Top Water and likely any of the manufacturers (there are several more). And catch a bunch of fish. Look forward to seeing you in 2017. grizwilson 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
sfiser Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I get a new trout boat about every 18 months and just keep my yamaha 40/30 jet and move it to the new boat. I have had 2 custom topwaters and currently own a supreme 207xp. I like the look of the topwater better but the fit/finish of the supreme is far superior to the topwater (seriously, its not close). And a major factor in a new boat is customer service. Ive had my boat at both manufacturers for this and that and once for a major fix. Rob and the guys at supreme get it fixed and get you out the door quick. My bot sat at the topwater factory for longer than it should have. I have another 207xp ordered and it will be here in a few weeks. Call rob at supreme and go give them a look. I will even meet you for a test run too. The 207xp is designed for a jet and runs flatter and gets on pad faster than the topwater did. Im not saying topwater doesnt make a fine boat but the difference in the new supreme and the topwater is night and day. If you fly fish, it also rows better and sits a bit lower in the water which is really nice. Theres a reason The majority of the guides run a supreme. N9BOW 1
sfiser Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Oh and if your looking to go for a used rig, call the supreme factory as they take boats in on trade all the time (they will have mine soon and theres not a scratch on it since i only use it on the lake and when the waters turned on at the white/norfork). Hodges marine usually has some used jets w/ warranty on them for sale that can save you some good cash. I know they currently have a merc 60/40 and a yamaha 40/30 for sale. Stein 1

Why do you trade boats so often? Just curious. grizwilson 1
sfiser Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 i order new boats because im always thinking of things i wish i could add to make it better and If you keep your motor and just switch it from boat to boat then Its relatively inexpensive to do. Theres not a thing wrong with my current boat and ive taken insanely good care of it but ive thought up a few ideas of things i want to add and if i can sketch it out on paperfor the guys at Supreme, they can make it happen and thier customer service is the best there is.
