Hughesy Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Ok guys, I'm in the market for the very warmest cold weather clothing (coveralls, bibs, jacket, ect). Lets hear what you think.
jolicious Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 I'll preface: I had gastric roux en y surgery three years ago (gastric bypass). When I lost the 200 or so pounds, my thermostat has been funky since. Said all that to say: I get a heck of a lot colder, quicker, and stay colder longer, now than in the other 40 years of life on this planet. I fish all twelve months per year in Northwest AR, so I have become a pretty good judge of cold weather gear. If I were fishing today (truck showed 7° this morning), I'd wear: Under Armour 4.0 base layer bottom and top Fleeced lined jeans wool socks long sleeve tshirt heavy sweatshirt / hoody Cabela's Guidewear bibs and jacket. Balaclava every zip pocket in the guidewear will also have a disposable hand warmer - I buy them by the box. Champ188, Donna G, Hughesy and 2 others 5

I've lost 25 pounds over the past year and a half and I'm freezing to death. My wife and kids can't believe it. I never got cold before and now I wear gloves when I watch TV in the house. vernon, Smalliebigs and Carl W 3
Alex Heitman Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 I love the goretex pro qualifier jacket and bibs I have from bass pro. They always keep me warm when I am out fishing. My dad and brother bought some as well and we all couldn't be more happy with them. Smalls21 and Hughesy 2

I have the pro qualifier jacket and the 100mph bibs. I've always been comfortable even on the coldest days. Keeping my hands warm and dry is always the battle. Alex Heitman 1
dblades Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 I'm a big fan of snowmobile suits, been using one for at least 20 years, I originally got to hunt in. . I can never get the layers right, always still cold or sweating and always restricted in movement. My suit works from any temp I'm gonna fish/run the boat in up to about 50 degrees then it starts getting too warm. Add a good head covering and boots and I'm very comfortable.
Seth Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Base layer: polypropylene or merino wool (there are different grades depending on how cold you get. I use midweight)Middle Layer: heavy fleece or woolOuter Layer: Cabela's Guidewear rain gear.Socks: moisture wicking liner sock followed by a heavy wool sockBoots: 1000gr thinsulate lace up boots if below freezing and Muck rubber boots if above freezingGloves: fleece gloves with finger tips removed. I've also got a hand muff I can strap to my waist and throw some hand hands in if I need to take a break and warm my finger tips back up Aside from my rain suit, I'm just using stuff I bought at Walmart from the hunting section. Layering properly is far more important than brand. Blocking that stinking wind is the biggest factor for me when fishing in cold weather so the rain suit is vital. Basschomper and Codywskeeter1521 2
