Ketchup Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Alot of the pro fishermen have some type of backup plan for after retirement, or to help financially while touring. Edwin has a pretty neat story here on his pecan business website. I like the guy. http://www.edwineverspecans.com/aboutus.asp Daryk Campbell Sr and Johnsfolly 2 TinBoats BassClub. Daryk Campbell Sr Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Good read. Thanks for sharing. Old plug Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 .That is know backup plan that is his major sourse of income. You can bet he is a pocan farmer first and fishermab second ever since he got into it. Plants of anyx type can be a lot tuffer than fishing to be successful at
Johnsfolly Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Ketchup Thanks for posting his story. I hope that he does well. Agriculture is a fickle business, but he and his family seemed prepared to make it work. I have hunted near some pecan orchards in Georgia and was fascinated by the carpet high grass under the trees. Even got to watch one of the farmers out shaking his trees. When they vacuum up the nuts the short grass made a lot of sense. Ketchup 1
Ranger520vx Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 That was a good article. I really like pecans, so owning a pecan grove and fishing professionally for a living how sweet would that be.
Old plug Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Yes FICKLE. In a way growing things are like fishing. There is a wealth of information and training oit there about it bit unless ot is in your blood and you can feel it you may not do very well at all
jdmidwest Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I know the money I have wasted on a bee crop the past few years would have paid for my Tracker Boat that I bought last spring. But my farm is just a hobby, I never plan to make a living off it. And I don't plan on making fishing a job either, its hard enough work as it is. I don't think I could survive fishing every day of the week. Daryk Campbell Sr 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Old plug Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 It is something like that with me. I collecrted Hosta plants for years. had a collection of over 100 types at one time. They are suppose to be easy to grow but growing them to award winning eecpopping sizes is a lot of work. you learn that ach one of them has its own needs and chariteristics. I still have 30- 40 that os plenty for me to manage now days
Ketchup Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Farm 4 days a week, and fish 2 days a week. Thats the life. Pecans wouldnt be my choice of profitable plans tho. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

That would be nice but large trees and all the things that can effect them is gardening on a monster scale. I bet there will be times when he is going to worry for days on end. Squirrels alone could cost him a lot of profit. Just for a start in the Vermin catagory.
