It's about that time as winter is coming to an end (hopefully) pretty soon. Apparently not - darn groundhog. Champ188 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." It appears that you have to take common sense/awareness of your surroundings and stow them under a seat, or neatly up your @$$, so you can give the person you're towing a good ride. I still think it just comes down to a lack of indoctrination over nearly countless generations. Just think if there had NEVER been a requirement for drivers licenses? If everybody and anybody could just go buy a car of any size, power or speed and take it directly to the highway with no instruction or guidance whatsoever? Just plop down your cash and "Yee Haw" interstate here we come! AND, better yet, with a cooler full of beer and a fully stocked wet bar on board! Pot and other "recreational" type drugs optional. Similar to our lakes, it would probably be like driving in Columbia (and I don't mean Tiger town!) Heck more people are willing to read the owners manual of their newly purchased 1 horse power weed wacker than they are to even educate themselves on the 350 HP boat they just dumped into the lake and mashed the throttle down. I know that MO now requires a boating safety test if you were born after Jan. 1st 1984. I believe that is only a written test??? Should be some sort of actual operational/drivers test with an instructor. Require 10 hours with an instructor or something to that effect. 176champion, 96 CHAMP and vernon 3
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Heck I wish most people knew this. Crossing paths Your vessel: You’re on a crossing course with another vessel that could result in a collision if neither boat changes course or speed. The other vessel’s on the right: It’s the privileged or stand-on vessel and you must let it pass in front of you. The other vessel is on the left: You’re the privileged or stand-on vessel and you must pass in front of the other vessel. Meeting a boat head-on Your vessel: You’re meeting another vessel head-on. Both vessels: You should both steer to the right to such a degree that each can see the other’s intentions to pass safely portside to portside (left to left, for the landlubber). Daryk Campbell Sr 1

I guess maybe back in "The Day" it was looked upon as no big deal. You know, like airplanes. Big sky, little airplane has long been a common term among pilots when addressing the likelihood of a mid air collision. Likewise, "Big lake, little boat" might have been commonly accepted.
