Oh she's exotic all right!

I saw them at the grocery store too.  We've had a few of them over the years and getting one to bloom a second time is difficult.  At least for us. 

This one is behind a 65 inch plasma TV and I think the warmth helps.  She waters it with ice cubes once a week.

Just saw this thread. the new place we bought has about 12-15 raised gardens and one that is 100ft x 6ft. I have some work to do.

You go, guy! On my lot, even raised beds would have about a 30 degree incline.

Love going down to the basement and checking on things. Like a little kid.

I also love that they're not so freaking far ahead that I need to bring trellises into the equation ?

Here's a couple of my favorite lettuce varieties, Yugoslavian Red and Forellenschluss (that's supposed to be Austrian for speckled trout, or something like that).

Anybody ever hear the term 'potato-leafed' tomato? Here's a leaf on a Glick's Brandywine I've got going. 

Don't remember what other varieties have the potato leaf, but I hear the term thrown around by folks who take it way more seriously than I do.

Anyhoo-- it won't be long.

    Looking good there Ness. We are a couple three weeks behind you and two months behind where you were last year . Got the tomatoes out of the starter cells and into three inch pots. Still need to do that with our pepper plants. Lettuce in the beds going fantastic. So ready for good greens.  Found every old plastic pot in various sizes and put chestnut seeds that our trees produced last fall. Have nineteen sprouted and planted a few more yesterday. I have a couple neighbors wanting some trees. I was hoping I could find someone to take out all the walnut trees in our yard so we could go all chestnut trees. So far no takers. If this doesn't happen I may have little chestnut trees up for the taking.

SIO3 - congrats on getting the orchid to bloom again. I have heard that they need a steady environment, so having it behind the TV and just keeping it in one spot helps. Try this trick, after the last flower drops off of the flower stalk, cut the stalk in front (towards the flower end of the stalk) of the node where the first flower bloomed. We have had success in getting the plant to shoot another flower stalk off of that one. There will be fewer flowers than the original stalk, but you'll get another few weeks of flowers if it works. If it doesn't work for you, you haven't lost anything for trying.

We keep ours in the living room and in the kitchen windows. We have gotten our Phalaenopsis orchids to bloom a couple of times over the years. All four of ours are in bloom or soon to be in bloom. So your wife should just keep doing what's she doing with that one and it should bloom again next year as well.

It has 4 blooms today.  The slowly keep opening.

I'll tell her what you recommend and see what happens.

Been bringing in asparagus pretty regularly, but I've got some gaps in the bed. More crowns on order to fix that. 

Planted another gooseberry and my first currant last year, and they're going to be back this year. In the past, I have had trouble with them making it their first year, so that's good news. 

Got things cleaned up and ready to go last weekend. Took off the plastic I had over the beds for some solarization disease help. Don't know if it was enough heat to help, but it didn't hurt.

The maters are re-potted, and they're out with the lettuce hardening off these last couple days.

I know Marty is thinking I should have already eaten that lettuce  ?

Had a frost warning last night but the coast looks clear for the next 10 days. Even a little rain in the forecast later on this week and next.

    You call that lettuce? .   Should of had that out weeks ago! 

    Sure am glad you did not let me plant my tomatoes early like you let me last year.
