Guest Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 I'm the opposite. I need to move it out so my leg is fully extended, taking the pressure off my hip joint.

I keep my hot foot pedal flat and I hold onto the wheel for dear life to keep me seated in the boat at all times. The other leg is on it's own. "Every appendage for itself" theory. As Jolicious stated to me years ago......."the best way to go through rough water is get through it quickly" LOL! Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
oneshot Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Ok I've sold my Boats, can no longer ride in them. It just hurts too much. Happy just fishing from the bank. What is bad my Doctor has me working out in the Gym and while I'm doing this I'm not hurting so bad but he also said I could move wrong and really mess my Back up. oneshot
Gavin Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Would find a good chiropractor and do some physical therapy, and exercise. You hurt when you are out of shape and out of alignment. Back Surgery is last resort. grizwilson 1
KCRIVERRAT Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Feel for ya Trophy. Best to choose what direction YOU wanna go after conferring with medical people from all fields. I've had seven spinal column surgeries. Started in '04 with my neck. Three surgeries later fused from C-3 to C-7 with 16 screws and 5 plates. Had a condition called Myelomalacia (bruising of the spinal cord). Stenosis had started but I waited too long. Doc's at KU Med spine center said surgery was my only option. Can't use my right hand worth a hoot. Atrophy in forearm and fingers won't straighten. Messes with casting and tying line amongst other things. Stenosis spread to my lower back. Three surgeries again fused from L-2 to L-5 but no titanium. So... still the lumbar area was killing me. Last surgery was an outpatient deal having a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my lower back . It has helped but it's kind of a pain in the posterior. Has your Doc mentioned this? Here's the good news... I still get out to fish. Do solo river trips carefully. It's the getting around and about that's slowed down but as long as you have family and friends who help ya out it's all good. I'm no Doc from any field, but whatever you decide to do I don't think it'll keep you off the water at this point. Good luck to ya... oneshot Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I was told a chiropractor would paralyze me, surgery is out, Injections are out. I'm on Blood Thinners so normal Pain Medication is out. I take Opioids but my Doctor has me going into the YMCA Working out, my weight he is not worried about 255 pounds but I am building muscle. He tells me to keep active as I can. oneshot
Stein Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I just had an L5-S1 fusion in October. Best thing I ever did. All pain, numbness, tingling in legs and feet is gone completely. Don't discount the surgery out of hand. Ham 1

Guest Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Well, theres hope that I can regain some strength & mobility. I was told that I needed to do these stretches on the exercise ball everyday for the rest of my life. Otherwise, I will end up in surgery like several of you guys. Im getting an MRI on the hip & SI joint next week. My biggest problem was not working out when I felt good. I lifted weights but I didnt do my stretches. If yall see me on the gravel bar with a yoga mat & excereise ball, try not to laugh. Im seriuosly going to incorporate these stretches into my fishing routine. There are many trips where I can get out of the boat & stretch. I've got to embrace these changes or face the consequences. Good luck to all of you that are suffering or worse. It can really take a toll on you mentally.
