snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 That's also called the Alberto knot. Works like a charm.
fowlthing Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Uni knot is where I have landed. It is quick and seems to work for all situations... and easier to teach to my kids.
Members Golf Pro Posted April 18, 2017 Members Posted April 18, 2017 J Knot. It is a uni tie in the flouro and an improved clinch (wrapped 10 to 12 times) in the braid.
dblades Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Uni knot works great and is the easiest to tie. I've never had frayed braid come back, I have had the fluorocarbon break right at the knot, but I've never broke at the knot itself. Been using the uni for over 20 years for all applications from hooks, dropshots to leaders. 96 CHAMP 1
Seth Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I'm a big fan of the Alberto/improved Albright as well. On the hook side, I either use a uni knot or (preferably) the Braid and Fluorocarbon knot. With 6-8#, I usually just go with a Uni knot. Any fluorocarbon 10# and stronger gets the knot pictured below.
shrapnel Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Over the years I have progressed from the Double Uni, to the Albright and now to the FG knot...I don't see myself ever going back the FG is an amazing know once you learn it! Seth, Jim Elam and arsenal1477 3

I've never heard of that knot. I'll have to learn it and give it a try. It seems to be a bit stronger than even the Alberto based on the video I just watched.

It was frustrating (for me) to learn, I actually gave up on it last year and then picked it back up again this spring and it just clicked. You MUST keep the main line TIGHT while wrapping the fluoro, and pull each wrap snug as you go. I have caught at least a hundred fish on the same leader that started at 6' and is now down to 4' from retying lures in the past few months. No issues with 30lb braid to 20lb fluoro flipping jigs and slamming the hook, no giants but several in the 4-5lb class. Was getting rods ready for this weekend and 4 of the 7 I'm taking for bass will have braid on them, 2 of them braid to fluoro.
Members C Beach Posted April 18, 2017 Members Posted April 18, 2017 Like dwiebenga , the Improved / Reverse Albright / Alberto, or RP / John Collins knot as some know it in San Diego has worked fine for me personally on plenty of bass, and numerous wahoo up to 50lbs with no issues. Pretty easy to learn; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiSik3Jqs7M http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/alberto-knot Use that for the braid to flouro connection, and a SD Jam for flouro to hook / lure and you should be good to go.
Members sjcorpst Posted April 18, 2017 Members Posted April 18, 2017 I'm using braid and a flouro leader on spinning gear for drop-shot and Ned rig also. I tried several knots, and the one I've had the best luck with is called an FG Knot. I've included a link to a YouTube video on how to tie it (I use 20 wraps, 10 each side). It's a lot easier to tie than it appears at first. Simplified FG Knot
