Fish more often.

This exactly.   Ive also been in a bad slump lately.  I feel as if my last 20 or so trips have been full of missed blow ups, errent casts and few fish in my hand.  If you fish, however, 3 or 4 days a week that "slump time" decreases.  Just a few weeks ago with all that rain i was doing extremely well...seems like a distant memory. They will come around, you just gotta be fishing when they do.

Dont be afraid to fish water nobody else does if it means you get to fish.  I fish a little poop shoot runoff pond in st louis on my lunch break, its gross but full of decent bass, anywhere that you can cast to is worth casting to.   Getting to fish everyday, if only for an hour or two is great practice. ...Also...too much internet/article reading can be a detriment.  Its obviously hugely helpful, but its no substitute for time on the water and making mistakes.

If one can figure out how to set that up, that individual may not care about fishing anymore.

Update:

I took a trip to Florida and did some surf and jetty fishing. You guessed it, zero bites.

I opted out of my co-angler spot for the Stockton night tournament, as my tournament fishing (and all fishing) performance has been dismal as of late. The guy that replaced me landed one just shy of 7lb, and won BB.

Yeah, the slump is real.

Yeah, the slump is real.

The slump is real. And so are all the expert opinions.

I do agree, fish more. Worry less.  Your odds increase dramatically the more you fish.  Weather and patterns change so statistically, you're bound to have a good trip.

The small mental things and anxieties are what get me. Wanting certain conditions, less boat pressure from other boaters, etc. I've been on fish but couldn't figure out how to make them bite after throwing all of the confidence baits and even downsized way down to "just gets bites" baits too.

I have wondered what the correlation between days I've fished and the barometric pressure would look like had I tracked either.

We often fish on "nice days". Which means "blue bird skies". But, I'm not looking to give myself excuses.

I do need to work less and fish more. Especially on some cloudy days.

start aggressive and gradually work back to finesse . today on a pond near my house under blue sunny sky the largemouth were pounding swimbaits and shallow cranks on the weed edges fished quickly and less than 2 ft down . On a holiday weekend , among the horde of casual anglers .   I never got anywhere near finesse .

I figure fish for the fish that are actively feeding before trying to root out the reluctant .  Most times it works .

what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends

Remember, most people only post reports when they wack em...and when they wack them usually has little to do with their fishing ability, but having ideal conditions and doing the same thing they normally do.

Try something different;  put the odds in your favor by looking at water clarity, this will narrow down your choices pretty quick.

Fishing is supposed to be relaxing.  Have confidence in your abilities.  It isn't the end of the world if you are not on a bite.  The only standard you have to live up to is self imposed.  If you have no confidence your more than likely will not be very successful.   There are times everyone struggles to find and catch them.  That makes me more determined to figure it out.  Makes great conversation with my fishing buddies as I try to figure out what else I could have tried.  And remember one thing, some days the fish are going to win.
