eyedabassman Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Started out at 6:30 am and fished to 1 pm. Hot day on the lake with almost no wind, water temp at the start was 82 and 84 at the end. We started out fishing points from 7 to 20 feet.First two fish came on a PBJ jig with a Net bait trailer, alot of short hits and one on a worm. Water was still stained to about 3 feet ( will it ever clear ? ). Did throw some top water with no takers. Fished to 11:30 with 5 fish in the boat, then I wanted to try a bank that I have done well on in the past before we hung it up for the day,and bingo 18 came on the bank with chunk rock and wood and all the fish where in 12 to 17 feet.Nothing big and 3 keepers for the day,SM and spots.Man them sm are wrist breakers.Where are the better fish? We fished up 25 feet and the main bite was 15 to 17 any deeper not much just a few bites and just a few bites shallow. Schooled up today. Like I said nothing big but, catching is better than not catching! Oh, and all 18 came on the jig! Great jig bite now!!!!!!! magicwormman, Quillback, abkeenan and 3 others 6
Longball22 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I've been out a few mornings and evenings in the same area of the lake, and seeing a lot of the things you are. Caught a few fish, but definitely getting a ton of short hits or fish that come unpinned after a few seconds. Assuming there are a lot of short smallmouth out there playing games with the bigger bait. eyedabassman 1
Bill Babler Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 A lot of those short hits are good fish. Stuck my foot in my mouth twice today saying the same thing. Twice we caught solid fish after having a Yamamoto twin tail de-flippered. You just don't know. This jig bite is really on lake wide. Best depth is 12' to 22'. Green pumpkin / purple or PBJ are just really on fire. If there are 3 of us fishing I'm going thru at least a pack of trailers on a 4 hr trip. Lots of pickups and drops too I'm on a keeper bite, but just that. The way these 16" SMJ's are pulling I don't think I'd get a 3 pounder in the boat😄 But of course I'm willing to try Goof Luck m&m, Champ188, Quillback and 5 others 8 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Longball22 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Are you still on chunk rock, or have you ventured on to the gravel? I'm finding fish both places, but definitely not getting bit as frequently as you. I'm on the same color pattern as you.
merc1997 Bo Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 a whole lot of those, what seems to be, short hitters are goggle eye. why do I know? because I have been catching quite a few mixed in with the bass, and their bite feels just the same as the small mouth. seems as though the brownies are really pinning the jig to the bottom right now, and sometimes when they are doing this, you have to wait for that second nudge to get them, and even then you can still miss. bo eyedabassman 1
