rps Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 Went out today before the fog lifted. Water temp at HI -> 85 degrees. No top water activity apparent and no strikes in 20 minutes. Switched to a Ned and caught 1 dink in 40 minutes at three locations. By then the fog had lifted so I ran up river past Beaver. Caught three walleye and six bluegill on a worm harness fished in 10 - 11 feet of water. I lost a fourth walleye at the boat. Two of the walleye were keeepers. The third was a near miss. I was back at the marina before noon and home by 5 after. nomolites, merc1997 Bo, magicwormman and 8 others 11
Blll Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 RPS, I must be fishing too deep for Beaver Lake eyes. In your experience, is 10 fow oddly shallow for eyes in 85 degree water?
rps Posted July 15, 2017 Author Posted July 15, 2017 In years with very high water (2011, 2015, and this year) I have found a pattern for walleye fishing just outside the flooded bushes in 8 to 10 foot of water. This year the pattern has held for quite a long time. I believe the thermocline is starting to form at 10 feet and as it drops t0 deeper water, I expect the walleye to follow. dan hufferd and Royal Blue 2
Ellros Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I've caught several walleye in the past several weeks across from Indian Point Marina. Trolling cranks in 15 to 20 feet of water, with the cranks usually running 12 to 15 feet deep. And this is in the area of 10amish or so, give or take. So they have been a bit shallower than I had expected for this time of year.
top_dollar Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 They have been shallow at stockton too....10 fow or less, out to about 20 feet even when surface temps are 85. I am sure there are deep walleye to be had if one were to drag 30 foot cranks or jig spoons in ditches....but when enough are shallow at any given time they are normally the ones actively engaged in feeding and easier to catch imo. Its amazing how often the fish just don't follow the rules of fishing. Nice catching! dtrs5kprs and Ellros 2
