dan hufferd Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 To all of us who wear a ring... You might want to take them off before jumping out of the boat. It was a hot day on Stockton, my family decided to do some swimming. My wife entered the water by sliding from the gunwale of the boat. Her wedding rings caught the gunwale tie down. She still has a finger with skin on it, but by the time I set her broken finger and cut her rings off, she was not happy. The bone above the first knuckle was broken. and had 3 more radial fractures according to the doctor. The doc said I did a good job, there was nothing he could do, just a splint. The bad....She is a massage therapist. The good...We are still married. One more suggestion...act fast, when setting a finger, Never ask for permission, just do it. At the end one the day I am blessed with a wife who can only slap me with one hand for 6 weeks or so. Oh I did catch a couple fish too Johnsfolly, Big Keene, mzrealfish and 10 others 10 3
Quillback Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Ouch! Your better half has my sympathy. dan hufferd 1
tho1mas Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I had my wedding ring hang up on the front handle of a 16 ft. jon boat while launching at Cape Fair. The ring broke and pulled the length of my finger cutting to the bone until it fell into the water. It looked like a horse shoe (the ring not my finger). That resulted in an unscheduled side trip. Never had a ring on again. I let the women take their chances. dan hufferd 1
Krazo Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 glad to hear she's okay. sounds like couldve been worse had it not been for your quick actions. have you looked into the silicone rings? we have them for times when we're active. they are a great alternative. dan hufferd 1
Devan S. Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I'll second the silicone ring. I wear mine 100% of the time and wife wears hers probably 75%. Haven't had anything happen when it made a difference but lots of people have ring incidents. I find the silicone much more comfortable working, hunting, and fishing.
lee G. Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 I had mine hangup one time, working on a building, bad deal when you are on the edge of a 20 story highrise. Never wore it again , except foe dressup wear. tho1mas 1
dan hufferd Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 Thanks everybody. I don't wear one either. I have seen the silicone rings. I am not sure she would go for it. As for me , I have worked some sort of construction or factory work my whole life after a couple close calls, the ring came off. I really don't think my wife is worried about anyone picking up on this ugly duck. tho1mas 1
Members Domicela Kingsley Posted October 20, 2017 Members Posted October 20, 2017 Reading this made me cringe! Thank goodness her finger was saved and that you're still married lol. I'm definitely a pro-advocate for the silicone bands. You can find them cheap on https://imperialrings.com and a bunch of others.
MOPanfisher Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Glad she is OK. Rings can be dangerous, but still have mine.
176champion Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 I stopped wearing my wedding band about 2 weeks after we was married...mechanic by trade, smashed the ring on my finger just from using hand wrenches, got the ring off and never put it back on.. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
