Members mbkwrh Posted October 4, 2017 Members Posted October 4, 2017 Woke up around 3:30 drove to the farm with my buddy Matt to go turkey hunting. All we saw were some small hens and decided to pass just because we wanted something bigger than 4 pounds😂. So we headed south to Taney for the casting part, picked Matts brother up and got the boat on the water around 10am. Nice and cloudy and just the right flow , looked to be about 1/2-1 unit of water. So we boated to the cable and fished the south bank making several drifts and catching 4-5 fish each drift. We fished the cream and white Mega worm along with orange eggs. By about 2 it started to rain then big rain set in and we were off the water by 3pm. Caught a lot of rainbows and no browns. Is it me and my eyes or has the water been really stained up the last few weeks? Looks like a lot of browns are stacked up on the north bank too. After seeing a lot of browns yesterday on the north side it makes me wonder if MDC has told the corp to run water so that the ladders can fill up so that they can collect the eggs. Just makes sense that this might happen since the corp has pretty much ran straight through for all most a week. Could also be because Bull Shoals or Norfork has 2 units down for repair not sure which one. Just food for thought, I just like my night time fishing with low water. Oh and don't forget this weekend in Mountain Home Ar. the Fly Fishing Fair will be going on at the UofA campus 5 bucks gets you in the door to see all the tiers and vendors. Also as Vp of Education I have to plug the youth part which is free to kids and is on Saturday they will be taught to tie some simple flies then will be taken to Dry Run Creek for on the water seminar. Till next time!! Giddy Up!! mikeak, MoCarp, snagged in outlet 3 and 2 others 5
laker67 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 You should have honked. I was on the upper end from about 10:00 to 2:00. You are right about the color and right about the browns on the north bank. They are as tuff as I have ever seen to fool. Fished four hours to fool 4. mbkwrh 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 4, 2017 Root Admin Posted October 4, 2017 That was strange... after update I couldn't access this text box. Cleared cache and it's fine. MDC has given up on browns up the ladder. They've already ordered brown trout eggs from a supplier. Yes, they've had to do this in years past. mbkwrh 1
Members mbkwrh Posted October 5, 2017 Author Members Posted October 5, 2017 Well then that must mean the continued run of the water is due to the others not able to produce enough power. I hope they get the right eggs this year and they are coho salmon like they have done in the past😂

Well shoot I would have love to talk to ya next time you see my longbboat up there give us a shout. You could have got in with us and drifted it has been good. Just hard to drift the north due to the waders. I had Olivia out with me last Sunday and I just anchored in front of outlet 1, so she would have a chance at some big browns. It seemed to work out until some guy decided he need to come across a pod of fish neck deep for no reason😂😂

laker67 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Thanks for the invite. I will try to watch for you in the future. Crowds have been on the rise in the past 2 weeks. I think it might be less crowded at the trout parks. Corky and I were at the Norfork the day prior to this. Motels were empty, fly shops were closing early, and the Norfork smelled like a sewer and had a brown color. Corky outfished me 3.5 to 1. He had three and one half fish and I had one for a hard days fishing. I am looking forward to November and already have reservations for Mckay lake in Jeff city. mbkwrh 1

It has to get better Pete, it surely won't get any worse. We had to go to Gene;s to buy a tag because the y store no longer sells them. The water was running all day, so hopefully they will get the lake cleaned out by your trip.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 We've been doing this trip for 30 years or better. Water seems to be getting worse over time. grizwilson 1
