lee G. Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 I agree Wrench, you are adding variables to the normal cycle, how they balance out, I dont know, but interupting the compression piston stroke might balance out any gain gotten from the ignition of the lube. Or there might not be any gain if the stroke is interrupted early on, Dont have a clue about flash point for the lube or pressure needed.
fishinwrench Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 I assume that there is a pressure regulator built into the air chamber? And can it be adjusted? I'd like to learn more about how the system works (the hot-rodding possibilities could be fun). For instance:. Does cocking it fast vs. slow make a difference ? Can you still reach the max pressure by cocking very slowly? What about the air exit port? Can bigger be better? I'm geeking out here.
lee G. Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 I have a single pump RWS 34. No regulator. One pump thats all, around 700 fts. They advertise 1000 fts, but that is always with the lightest pellet, 700 or 800 is more realistic. Would think a larger exit port would reduce fts, like a garden hose. On pump guns, i never noticed any change with the speed of pumping. I dont know much about the PCP airguns, thats a different system. Seems like you can regulate pressure on some of them, but could be wrong. w
lee G. Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Wait, rethought that exit port idea, might not reduce fts, pressure still would have to exit out the barrel pushing the pellet, so, I dont know.
Lancer09 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I actually picked up the Gamo Hornett Maxxim in July to pick off squirrels that were getting tomatoes in the garden. I'm still picking tomatoes and still popping squirrels out of there. Yesterday number 45 took a dirt nap. There was also a very large skunk living underneath my front porch as well that met its demise. I wanted it in .22 but when I went to bass pro they only had it in a .177. Seems to be doing the job pretty good for me though! I'm shooting a mix of Gamo rocket pellets (got a copper bb in the nose) and the gamo red fires. I know the red fires are 2 grams lighter so they shoot a bit higher but at close range they hit harder than the rockets. The rockets shoot better for anything over 20 yards or so. Johnsfolly 1
DADAKOTA Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Great thread. Would a spring gun be mire accurate than the compressed air guns? Which has the higher fps. Needing to whack some squirrels in the yard.
lee G. Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 The compressed guns are easier to shoot for someone just starting with airguns. There is a learning curve with a springer, because of all the movement of spring and piston before the pellet leaves the muzzle. Both are very accurate. Compressed airguns can have a higher fps.
Ketchup Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 Im a spring gun fan, due to the fact, that i would get somewhere and forget the pump or tank to fill. I will probably own one soon, but just something about the break barrel guns does it for me. Lancer, are those Rocket,s all their cracked up to be? Ive seen mixed reviews. TinBoats BassClub. fishinwrench Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Well, what do the higher quality rifles in the 500 - 700.00 class have that the 200.00 Gamo's don't? I can't imagine much more accuracy or killing power coming from any spring powered air rifle, at any price. Do they just last longer, better components, or what ? Do the 200.00 rifles get sloppy after awhile?
Ketchup Posted October 24, 2017 Author Posted October 24, 2017 Good questions wrench. Those that have the $600 + guns say that the inner componets are superior to the lower end units. I also have read where the accuracy is better due to a better quality barrel. Some of the air guns are upwards of $1500. Im sure those are quality of the highest for an air gun. I told myself $350 would be my max, because after that price tag, i will just buy another "real" gun. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
