Your insurance agent hosed you.   Boat, motor, trailer,  should be insured separately (your agent knows that).   They are licensed separately and you pay personal property tax on each separately if you're in Mo.

A 5k deductable is outrageous.  Never even heard of that.

$5k seems a bit much. The m not sure I could get an agent to reasonably do that on my house. Then again, I asked my son (8) to read a label for me yesterday when I cooked breakfast and he advised to preheat the oven to 4000 degrees.... you never know where an extra zero will show up other than rarely in your favor.

I had 2 claims in 3 years with State Farm and they dropped me without even notifying me. Fortunately I had no incidents while I was running around uncovered. I only found out because I called to get cards to carry in the boat. Bs.

I was in the same situation with State Farm. Had a boat stolen in 2007  and filed claim on bent prop shaft in 2010 and they dropped me not notice either, bad business if you ask me. but what can you do you have to have them.

I financed a new Lowe 180/Evinrude 115 just to help a local dealer out....and it was a really good buy.   The finance company sent letters saying that I was obligated to carry full coverage insurance on it and they knew that I wasn't.  I told them that it was in my garage therefore covered under my homeowner's policy, and wasn't being used, wasn't even licensed, and I acknowledged that I realized that I was responsible for the loan regardless.   They didn't care and insisted that if I didn't fully insure it separately that they'd apply a "forced placed policy" and add the premium to my monthly payments.  I asked how much my payments would increase and it was only 14.00/mo.   Well that was cheaper than any policy I could have gotten on my own so I said "fine do it".

10 months later a tornado ate the boat, I called and informed them, and they said I still had to pay off the loan in full.  I refused so 4 months later they repo'ed what was left of the boat, got a judgement and WON.  The judge never even allowed me to speak.   WTF was that forced placed policy and payment increase for?

Just lowered my deductible to 500 for the year and the cost was 63$ extra.   I don't know how  I bought that original policy  Surely I wouldn't have agreed to a 5000$ deductible.  Next time I will read the papers closer.    Tuition for this life lesson looks to be about 1300$.  Luckily gears are all good.. just need new drive shaft bearings and seals..

Could have been worse.

Beats me.   Homeowner's covered it so I really wasn't out much, but that whole deal was messed up.  The truly odd part is that even though I had a judgement against me that never showed up on my credit report.

I find that all utterly ridiculous. Insurance companies drive me crazy.
