Flyguide7 Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 A friend gave me this photo of the litter allegedly caused by the Brookdale farms Lantern Fest. The highlight of the festival they launched a few thousand paper bag lanterns aloft, but took no apparent thought of the aftermath since this photo was taken the next day. How can this be permitted to happen?
joeD Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Because, that’s why. Lanterns. Not fish poachers. Not chemicals. Not gravel bar miners. Not gun nuts. Lanterns. Peace brother. Flyguide7 1
fishinwrench Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I cleaned my gutters out a month or so ago and was surprised that there were 4 bottle rockets and an ink pen in there. My daughter probably threw the pen, but nobody shot bottle rockets around my house ! How'd those get in there? Pretty sure the lantern stuff is biodegradable, but yeah it looks bad. Jillions of them are launched every year though, and as far as I know nobody ever chases them down to pick them up. Flyguide7 1
semble Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I was wondering what the MODOT sign warning of caution for lantern fest traffic on Antire by Henges was about. Now I wonder why I wasted my time wondering. Flyguide7 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Johnsfolly Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Don't know about the Lanterns. My pet peeve is the political signage left after an election. I believe that if you lose the election you should have to clean up all of those signs☺! Will never happen but a man can dream! Mitch f, Daryk Campbell Sr and Flyguide7 3
shrapnel Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 These are banned in several states. The idea of sending a fire skyward on something that was built in China for pennies just seems like a bad idea. I have seen them come down and set something on fire several times. MOFishwater Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I live in Eureka and saw a lot of complaints...Brookedale Farms says the lanterns are rice paper and should dissolve after a rain fwiw. ANy idea specific location? Apparently there is a # you can call for their cleanup crew on each lantern's tag. I could let them know where this spot is if you can provide the location. Flyguide7 1

I agree and sending them aloft on a dry year is adding additional risk.
