Sore Thumbs Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Haven’t been using the Ned much here lately but thought I would put those jig heads to some use. 1/8 oz with weed guard. Should work great. magicwormman and cheesemaster 2
Dutch Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Let us know how that works for you. I have had to go to a good quality 3/0 to keep my hooks from being straightened out when a good fish attacks it.
Sore Thumbs Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 Will do Dutch. Water might have to cool down some more before I really use it. Have a tournament tomorrow but the wind isn’t supposed to blow that hard. I’m taking it just in case the weatherman is wrong.😜
bluebasser86 Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Believe it or not, but my buddy caught a 14.5lb striper on an A-rig at Beaver with 3" Easy Shiners on some 1/8oz heads I poured on a #1 hook. Took awhile and even with babying it, still almost straightened the hook, but he got her in the boat, his first striper ever. m&m, Royal Blue, Daryk Campbell Sr and 3 others 6
Sore Thumbs Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Caught 2 Stripers and a bunch of whites on that A rig. Went out after the tournament. crazy4fishin, cheesemaster, m&m and 4 others 7
Dutch Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Some good looking fish there sir. Those things love the A rig don't they.
Sore Thumbs Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 They hammer it. It was crazy. Stripers and whites were in an area about a square mile busting the top. It was great.
Dutch Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Did you have any trouble with the hooks getting straightened out on the hook set?
Dutch Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Maybe I just set the hook too hard on them. I went through a series of hook straightenings on Bull a few years ago. I finally found a gammy 2/0 that would hold. It is so hard for me not to swing to the rafters when something hits so hard.
