jdmidwest
Last boring weekend of year, I hope. Been doing research on TN smallies in winter and came across the Float N Fly. Lots of articles so I am not going into detail. After dropping some coin on rod, rigging, jigs, and new tying material. May even catch a mess of crappie to eat also. Lookout Pickwick. It has been a long time since I tyed a jig. I think the last was a custom order from a crappie guy back in early 90's. Dutch
Nice looking jig there jd. I got into that a while back. A bud and I fished them all over this area. We were trying to catch smallies like the big boys do in TN. We caught a ton of crappie on it some green fish carp cats drum whites but not one MO or AR brown fish. The jigs are a lot of fun to make. I just can't catch smallies on them. Good luck to you in your quest. Ham
Boobie
Just love the video of Bill Babler and Bill Beck catching a nice bass on Table Rock on the fly. I'm sure Babler will hold that day special along with many others.Bill Beck lives in my heart!!!!
Ham
I like the FNF game, but I have had minimal success. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

jdmidwest
Lots of articles on it. It may just be a southern thing. I catch river smallies on the fly and tyed a jig up of my favorite river fly also. Still have some shad colors to go, just started with the most popular ones according to one article. Ice here today, house bound for sure. Was going to hit a gunshow with Dad but no way I am going 150 miles one way on these roads. Another full day of tying in store for me. tjm
I see almost the same technique at RRSP all the time. Guys use fly rod with strike indicator (bobber to me) and bead-head or cone head flies (same as jigs, float like a sinker); some of them call it nymphing. Years ago when I used spinning tackle, I threw a bobber and fly for trout in still water. (water filled bobber casts a long way) So the concept works and isn't really a long way from worm under bobber that I fished as kid with 12' cane pole or a bank-cut willow "rod". Those store bought "crappie jigs" have caught quite a few small mouth bass when fished without bobber in the streams, so you might want to cast your jigs there too. If those you show don't catch a fish it will be your fault; not using them or using them where there are no fish.
