No manly men back then that had to mount fish.

I don' t recall a single man in my grandfathers age group that fished as a sport or hobby, when they fished it was done like any other job. Gig, grab, noodle or seine and cook right now or can them.  I'm sure there were hobby anglers, just none that I knew of in this area.

That guy in the pic, is probably thinking, "Look at the fillets n this thing".

My grandfather put a woop'n (one of those, I think I might die kind) on his son (my uncle) for releasing fish, and not bringing them to the dinner table. For those of us of humbler means, sometimes fishing is not just for fun.  It was a different time.

Nothing natural about the big impoundments around here, if there was some way to manipulate largemouth so that they'd grow bigger, I have no problem with that.

Interesting take.  I disagree as those large impoundments still feed, or are fed by smaller natural streams, creeks, ponds (flooding), etc.

Well you have Carp, Spotted bass, Stripers (in Beaver and some in Bull), trout, probably some question as to the origin of the smallies, Largemouth, and walleye - are they pure White river strain fish?  I don't see where doing some genetic manipulation on largemouth is going to effect any sort of natural fish species in these man-made impoundments.

I am not referring to the fish in the impoundments, but the native strains that are affected by the impoundments.  The thought is neat, but dangerous.  We already have a great abundance of fish we cannot catch.
