I think oneshot and MoCarp are using the same scales for fish tales,

The Common was weighed on Certified Scales, because I was paying to fish for it. The Buffalo was weighed with Digital.

Boy that is a good thing to hear because I was afraid the pay to fish lake might of got too you a few extra bucks but since it was a certified scale you got what you paid for,

I will be surprised if I do not hook into a tough fighting fish this spring before I make about dozen or so cast with a jig. A drum at this time of the year they  fight like a bass and it can confuse you. I have caught them well over 5 lbs in this lake and have seen some real masters come out of the Mississippi River. In this cold water they are as tough aa anything else.

can't speak for oneshot, but I spent good $ on a reuben heaton scale, was certified when I was in Texas, probably should look at getting it certified here in Missouri,

this 1st fish from brian wingard,  is 38-6#

the smaller 2nd fish is spot on 20#

the last fish was  43-13 #and was the Tx state record so that was on a certified scale

the last fish is the UK record fish named "big rig" 69 lb 3 oz.

last pic is how fish get weighed zero out the mat, we were weighing fish number 2

I had an older thread on carp size, most people way over state fish size, most scales don't weight upper weights very well,

Yes by all means get it recalibrated because carp weigh much more in Texas. Surprised you are not living down there because they have a trophy water down there,

true, but I am not fishing for average common carp,

I seek bigger wiser quarry, fish that can be over 40# That are hard to fool, and can shell out most tackle meant for mere mortal bass, many a rod has been snatched and lost from that 1st carp run, when I get asked what its like, I describe the run of a monster carp like a tire running down hill, you just hang on and hope your drag can hold it.

the long rods with parabolic actions allow you to land those fish on the small hooks sometimes needed to fool a fish into taking your offering, these specialized rods can also chunk the heavy weights sometimes needed (3-4oz) at distances as far as 200 yards away. far enough from you so the wary-est fish will not suspect your bait. it is a joy to fish with these thin strong carbon blanks, they are not like the pool cue surf casting or catfish rods, you can feel every swish of their powerful tails and that lumbering shake from those basketball sized heads.

I have a place where a large fish swims,we call her El Diablo, 1st time she was caught was 9 years ago when she was 22#. she has been caught just 4 times in 9 years.....the last time she weighed 43# the next time she gets caught she will prob be a new Missouri state record.

how do we know its the same fish? she has a distinctive scale pattern and a notch in her tail fin. if that fish gets arrowed it will be a shame after blessing the 4 anglers  who have been lucky enough to have placed the old girl on a mat.

for some reason the tipping point for carp seems to be 20#. once they get that old and big they don't fall for things as easy as there foolish younger brethren. of all the species of fish I have chased these are the most challenging to fool, and the most powerful, just something about those long sizzling runs that just keep you coming back for more.

The fish that broke the Texas state record in 2006 and won a $250,000 payday had been landed a hand full of times and released each time to get a little bigger....sadly she was arrowed  not long after she broke the record, many people traveled to Austin, Texas to try for that fish, and it was  for those reasons CT passed the strict no fish over 26" in trophy carp waters.

so there is a reason to hide the super secret carp spot

After reading the above. I got to tell you, if your for real your not going to impress anyone with your ability to handle large fish on Large rods with very heavy line. You also.should be careful about telling folks a lot of your rods get snatched away by these big powerful fish. it sort of  makes you look very amateurish. My son has caught a couple of 100 lb sharks fishing off the beach in Florida on 30 lb test. He may well had 300. yrd out before the battle was over but he worked the fish. I do not think you know what that means. I would advise you not to think for a minute your going to educate many on here in the art of Carp fishing. either. I am pretty sure most of them have been there and done that many years ago with anything you can tell them. They are what I call real fishermen. They are going to fish come He-- or high water for whatever there's to fish for.  They have been driven to fish by some mysterious force ever since they were very young and  discovered water and the fish there in. So be careful when addressing these guys.
