mixermarkb Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Hi Guys- I launched at Spring Creek today at noon due to some boat maintenance in the morning, quit at 5pm. Fished the Oakland/Gulley area for the most part. Tough day, with 3 keeps and 5 shorts for me, the father in law and 11 year old both skunked. Water temps 48-51, clear to stained. High skies with very little wind most of the day. Fish caught on Wart, RC, and A-rig, with keeps on the wart in 10' and the Arig in 28'. Steep banks in the back of creeks and the mouth of creeks, no love on flatter stuff for me. Tough day for March, but felt good to be on BSL for the first time since last May. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer, and that should make it better, so we will see if I can get the kiddo and the old man some fish tomorrow. Will add pics later, not uploading at the moment- Daryk Campbell Sr, Fish24/7 and Rob P 3
Ham Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Set the little guy up with a small swimbait and have him throw it towards shallow water and have him fish it low, slow, and steady. He will get bit. mixermarkb 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
mixermarkb Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Hey Ham- I had him with a 3.8 kietech on one of those owner weighted hooks with the underspin blade, and the father in law was throwing his smoke grub that I showed him a couple years ago, and the Ned for a few minutes. They should have been getting bit had I really found anything to speak of. I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a better bite. High skies and no wind is always tough, and I was moving around quite a bit trying to cover water and find fish. Was down a graph at the console, got that fixed when I got off the water, so I'll be a better guide tomorrow I'm sure lol- and if not, I'll be a hero in a couple weeks when we come back after Easter.
Bill Jr. Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 good luck tomorrow. i'm hoping it will be better tomorrow for you and the fam. If you have any smaller 2.8 keitechs I would try them on a 1/8-1/4 head or 1/4 oz. underspin. i'm heading down tomorrow evening being the "guide" as well for my party so let me know how you do. I'll try to post after Fri and Sat results. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Ham Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I was thinking 2-3 inch on 1/8 oz jighead. Catches a little bit of everything Royal Blue and mixermarkb 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Rob P Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Thanks for the report! 48-51 degrees and water has dropped back to about 659. I'm heading back in 2 weeks then every other weekend in April. What do you guys think about the A-Rig with smaller baits in shallow water? That should start a bite. I would think the eyes should be biting in those temps.
mixermarkb Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Same. Got 2 bass for the father in law, and a decent spot for Sid. I had another nice smallie, a couple keeper spots and 6 or 7 shorts. I feel like the fish are grouped up, but I also felt like those groups were miles away from anywhere I was fishing. Oh well, nice day to be outside, even if it wasn't a 30 bass day.
mixermarkb Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Oh, still tons of dead and dying shad everywhere. Tons. Ham 1
