I have a confession to make, and a pledge.

I was talking to Kathy about the swap down in the cave the other night, and I grabbed a fly box and said, 'Hey, look at all these different, cool and crazy flies from the last swap I was in.' Lot's of interesting and creative stuff in there. It had a few extras of my own in there that were dinged up, so I know I added those after the swap and had had the box out to fish. As I looked at the rest, I realized I never fished the other flies in there. (I think I see wrench a-comin').

I think that needs to change. So, here's my pledge: I'm gonna fish the flies from this swap -- and I'm gonna fish them BEFORE I fish my own creations. That is my pledge -- and I encourage us all to do the same. Even fish the rookie-tied woolly bugger. They don't look as good as ones tied in a third world by someone who ties 250 a day, but they'll fish.

I've been in a bunch of swaps.  The only fly I ever actually used (for real) that came from a swap was a fly Fox Statler tied, called a "Spinner'd Minner".  I just had to see if it worked.

I have a collection of truly famous ones living in Altoid tins with their little toe tags still on 'em.  I have a Trout Crack from John Wilson, a Cock'nBalls and a rubber legged Prince from Brian Wise, a wine colored Condom worm from Jimmy T., a Sparkleminnow from Greg Coffey,  a Mohair leech from Mike Kruse, a Professor from Davy Wotton, a crawdad from BigDaddyHubbard, and a few others I can't think of right now that definitely belong in the fly-tying hall of fame.

I even still have one from a dude on the old Conservation Cafe that absolutely HATED me.  I mean that dude hated me so bad that I actually thought he might show up at my house one day and shoot me in the face.  I kept the fly and told my wife, at the time, that if I ever got murdered unexpectedly to get the DNA from the dude that tied that fly and track him down for questioning.

bondini was always  my go to, yeah that company makes many brands and that is why zap-a-gap is unfamiliar to me

So, maybe not enough moisture on the failed applications, and also mentioned that fresh cut or broken items don't as well as older breaks because of lack of moisture. I've seen CA mixed with baking soda as a crack filler and that might be useful to you.

Yep I have read the same thing. Here is the link  so Ness fill your crack with baking soda and it wont hurt if your crack is damp at the time :) ,

Missed these posts -- thanks. Seems like it could work. We're still talking about poppers, right?
