I recently purchased a boat that the guy didnt have a title for and the guy before him didnt either and so on and so forth most likely. Has anybody dealt with this and know how to go about getting a title issued to this boat? I have already talked to the DMV and they told me I just need Highway patrol to fill out a form but highway patrol says they cant fill out the form without a title but the form states it is literally an affidativ as a bill of sale to create a title.

The only thing you can do with a boat that has no title (legally) is put a set of oars on it, or sell it to someone who lives in a state that does not title boats.  The crap you have to go through in this state to get it legal isn't worth it.

You might contact your sheriff's office or local police department.  I once had a consigned boat that the vin # did not match the title.  I got the necessary forms and had a local policeman come by.  He looked at the trailer and the title then filled out the form and I applied for a new title.

That or find a HIPO who fishes and will help a brother out.  It worked out OK for me one time like that.  Or pay an attorney.  There is  always a way.  Sometimes but not always it means $$$.

Did you actually talk to the DMV  or just to the folks that run the local license bureau?  The license bureau is a contract vendor that usually changes when the party in power changes  (at least in some counties) and I've known them not to have any idea of what they were doing.

on this page http://dor.mo.gov/motorv/watercraft/

Under "Missouri Resident Titling and Registration Requirements" it list several documents that can be used for titling; one is " descriptive bill of sale"....another is http://dor.mo.gov/forms/93.pdf

I know that I obtained titles for a truck and a car with no hassle, I filled out an affidavit that the other state used no titles and an application for title and had both notarized,  paid the money and waited for the mail. But that was 30 years ago.

Contact DOR in Jeff City. They have responded to me from an emailed question before. If you still can't get a straight answer and are having problems, I can stop by the main Jeff City office to ask the gal who has been there for 30 years on what the best thing to do is.
