bkbying89 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 For the first time in years, I had my license checked by two agents on the Current. When they identified themselves I laughed and told him I didn't believe him. I haven't seen an agent in I can't remember how long. He assured me he was. I produced my license and had a nice chat. he told me they just don't have enough agents to cover all the areas in their counties as thoroughly as they need to. jdmidwest Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 But sometimes they work in pairs if they suspect shady characters. This time of year, no hunting going on, they may saturate and pair or gang up in areas that need monitoring. For fishing violations. We were on 11 Point River fishing in a TN registered boat this weekend and saw the MDC agent twice in a 2 hour period. Never asked to see anything, but we spoke to him and waved each time. He was alone and running the river in a jet boat. New guy, never met him or saw him before. You would have thought we would have been a prime suspect. But we were fully licensed, legal, and just minding our own business. I would like to see more agents in the field but unless we have another bond issue adding onto the current 1/8 a cent tax I doubt we see any additions to the manpower in the near future. Bill
jdmidwest Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Its funny, counties that are sparsely populated should have more agents to cover it in my opinion. More "wild areas" where game violations could occur. But they tend to task more in highly populated counties. It is an either or situation Higher use areas probably have more people breaking laws but the lower population areas have more people breaking laws and getting away with it. I know I have seen people break laws and not done anything because I wasn't sure if a law was being broken. My fault for not knowing. I am referring to gigging suckers with a bow in the blue ribbon area of the Current River and snagging trout in the same area. Snagging I was sure was against the law but couldn't swear they were snagging, just a suspicion. Bill
Gavin Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 One agent per county is nothing. There are about 115 counties in Missouri and a 9-5 job is 2,080 hrs per year. Even if an agent spends half of their time doing enforcement activities its only 1020 hrs per year per county..They have plenty of money to spend on enforcement if they wanted to, but they do not. . JUNGLE JIM 1 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 I've been checked four times this year. Three times at a city lake and once in the county. Women in pairs in the city and one lone guy in the county. I guess since I looked like a character from the show Duck Dynasty with that beard I had. Shaved it off and haven't been checked since. One said they are out there but you don't see them.

I read an article the other day about that too. The Highway Patrol is pulling over persons of color more than others. Drive an interstate sometime and see what is passing you on the left hand lane. You will see the pattern. They see it too. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
