Dutch Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 We fished hard today. Went up the river early looking for a top water bite. NADA, tried some flats with spinner and buzz baits, NADA, worked bluff ends and pockets to 30' NADA. We finally found a place where we could slow roll a spinnerbait and get a hit now and then. We wound up with 11 bass only 2 of them keepers. Most of them were caught in the afternoon. Hot, muggy and tough. I think I'll go to Colorado or Wyoming and find a cool spot for a while. straw hat, wtr dogs, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 4
Dutch Posted July 8, 2018 Author Posted July 8, 2018 It is officially tougher than tougher than a boot. I worked my butt off today for 1 spot, 1 smallie and 1 spec. 19-34' deep. Water temp 85-87. Anyone want to buy a good boat and 30 some setups.😈 Bigfishscott 1
Members Bigfishscott Posted July 9, 2018 Members Posted July 9, 2018 I’m feeling the same way!!!👎👎👎👎 I keep telling myself their somewhere and they are eating!!! Stockton not the only place that’s bad right now!! But I have to give the ol’👍 To the boys at the Rock their catching em. I guess it’s time for us to cry the blues for a few years like they have and we’ll be blessed!!
straw hat Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Although most fish do not actually undergo estivation (summer hibernation) they do develop a similar state if the water temperature reaches a certain point. Their eespiration and metabolism slows and activity is greatly reduce. The following article is a fairly good over view of the process. http://sciencefairwater.com/physical-water-quality-parameters/water-temperature/water-temperature-effects-on-fish-and-aquatic-life/

Members Neeley Woods Posted July 9, 2018 Members Posted July 9, 2018 Yeah same here, we fished all weekend and had nothing .
waterpossum Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Dutch, after reading the successful TR reports about offshore fishing, i.e. spoons, drop shots, swim baits, bladed jigs, etc, do you think it feasible that Stockton could present the same opportunities. Bill Babler one of the guides and contributors to the TR thread has some very interesting and informative ways he catches fish. I know TR has more opportunities for keeper size kentuckies and smallmouths, but some of the reports are showing big LM bass being caught.
Members Bigfishscott Posted July 9, 2018 Members Posted July 9, 2018 I’ve been trying!! GREAT BIG NADDA!!!! waterpossum 1
Dutch Posted July 10, 2018 Author Posted July 10, 2018 I have spent some time looking around for off shore places where schools of fish could be hanging out. So far I have not found anything. Stockton may not be deep enough for the setup like the Rock is.
Skeeter ZX190 Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I beat the heat on Tuesday and still fished. I grabbed my fly rod and waders and went to Bennett Spings. I know it's like shooting fish in a rain barrel, but it was still fun. Standing in waist deep 50 degree water sure makes 93 degree days bearable. And the trout were biting what I was offering.
