helix 7 chirp di g2n at the helm and a 7 on front too.?

have my boat picked out loan approved. now ultrex or ulterra?

have trouble pulling the powerdrive up.

want to make sure i do this right the first time. 

new lund 1775 impact with slightly used  115 evinrude

and thanks again for helping a rookie. i'm mostly a crappie guy

If you have the coin go for the Ulterra.  It is on my list of things to buy if I can get all of the rigging kinks worked out.  I'd love to have one.

need to check to see if the helix 7 can completely interface with the Ulterra - I have a 10 and a 9 which gives me all the possible features of the Ulterra with Ipilot link.

I picked up a factory refurbished Ulterra for 1800.  Works well with my 988.  Also have a Helix 7 sonar only connected to the Ulterra.  Very very happy.  Just got back from Canada and my set up found the fish and stayed on them all day with spot lock etc.  Also made a map of the lake we were on using the 988 and ChartMaster Pro.  Set for next year now.

I have the Ulterra. I like it but have two comments.

You cannot run a cord to the end of the Ulterra and that means you must use the universal sonar built into the motor or come up with a Rube Goldberg sonar solution. The universal sonar supports only regular sonar and not down scan.

If you lose electric power, you cannot raise the motor. That has become an issue for me twice - once when the fob battery died, and once when the splice to the plug burned up.

The Ultrex deploy system avoids these issues, has an Ipilot fob, and is supposed to have a better spot lock.

If I were buying now, I would go with the Ultrex.

Something to think about.

thanks guys. if the ultrex is easy to deploy and return i should probably go with that. 

i didn't know about the cord either. very good info.

refurbished sounds good to me.

I am looking at the Ulterra at Marine Repair Center in Springfield.  Brad suggested that I would be in my best interest to put a quick connect/disconnect mount on it.

In my search to have 2d/side/down on the trolling motor I ran across Precision Sonar's transducer cable holder.  They have a video of it on their web site.

That is the best of the several I have seen. I fear the spot lock tendency to wrap itself would cause a problem.
