It takes a certain mix of MATURE trees with lots of clearings to really be a squirrel heaven. I prefer hunting/cleaning/eating Reds, but grays are all we have around my place (short of the city parks). I'd love to revisit some of the woodlots I hunted up north when I was younger. Huge mature trees just the right distance apart, and Red's galore. All the woodlots in THIS part of the country are young trees (pole timber) smothered in scrub brush. Just not the same. 😏

Just not the same. 😏 There is no shortage of squirrels around me, I just down own those properties, although I have never yet been denied permission to squirrel hunt. Mostly reds with a few pockets of quick little greys. My biggest problem is that basically from the time the leaves begin to fall it seems there is some verify of a firearms deer season happening. I don't hunt when it warm anymore, sweat too easily, too many chiggers, ticks and dang spider webs. You know, I want to do exactly what I want to, when I want to, and how I want to. The American Way! Quillback Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Thanks for the tutorial BH! I am a cold weather hunter, I like it when temps are down around freezing and the leaves are down. Shouldn't be too much longer. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
dan hufferd Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 To skin, we used to cut around the middle of the body, peel some skin back on each half, then pull the shirt off and the pants down at the same time, no hanging up at all. Then gut, wash, boil, de-bone, mix with a can of mushroom soup, pour over rice. Muskrat hind quarters are good too, but chicken is so easy. Thanks or the post, you got all of us thinking. 😀 BilletHead 1
