Tried to get the beds dried out this week and covered, did not happen.  But Billethead gave me the idea, I have jiffy pots and stuff to start lettuce inside.  May do that tonight with the sleet downpour coming down tonight.

JD I have always had good luck starting lettuce in trays. Then when transplanting into garden I can do a nice job of spacing in rows.

About 3" sleet now and still coming down.  May be sticking maters in ground by the time this all thaws out.

Those pots have been sitting in the closet for a while, might as well dust them off and put them to use.  No germination taking place outdoors for a while.

Got mine in on Valentine's Day. I mixed last years & new Black Seeded Simpson as usual. Put them in an old pepper shaker & fought the wind & raked them into the soil. Bet they are cold little hummers this morning. If Phil (the groundhog) was right with his weather guess I will enjoy wilted lettuce around Tax Day.

Big fan of starting indoors here. For one, it’s kinda fun to do and watch during this dreary time of the year. Also get to control temperature, moisture, numbers, etc. Started 48 cells / 6 varieties of lettuce today. On heat mats now—will transfer to shelves in the basement under lights once they get a good start.

Maters in a few days.

Who needs Miracle Grow, the manure getting spread is stacking up.

Did not know there was a race on sprouts, but my spinach or lettuce popped up yesterday.  I started lettuce and spinach in one group of pots Friday Night.  Picked up another round of pots and started snow peas in them on Sunday.

I did get my raised bed covered before this new swamp fest rolling thru.  Maybe the ground will be dry enough to stick them outside soon.  Downpour out now.
