Members justfishing Posted January 30, 2019 Members Posted January 30, 2019 Looking for advise and Pro's and Con's Big motor support !!!!!! Have new boat at which came from dealer with swivel eze transom bar ( Bar that goes from motor to trailer ) my old boat had a Swivel lock bracket on it from the day I got it . Question is which is recommended and best for long term. Thanks for all inputs!!!!!
nomolites Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 If you have power trim there is a sleeve the slides over the shaft on one side to simply provide support. Mike
Dutch Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 My rig came with a transom saver. All it did was scratch my lower unit. I bought some wedges and am happy. www.m-ywedge.com lobina grande and snagged in outlet 3 2
zarraspook Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Long term USE THE BAR !!!!!! You want minimal movement of the motor... with out the bar the motor can bounce, when the trailer don't.. "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Dutch Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I have a 250 on my boat. I have followed my wife as she has pulled my rig many times to Stockton and back with the wedges and my motor is as stable as can be. bassfisher 1
fishinwrench Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Tilt/trim cylinder braces only protect the hydraulic system of the tilt/trim, they do nothing to provide support for the transom of the boat. They are fine until you hit a bump or a pothole. Sturdy transom tie-downs and a brace that goes from lower unit to trailer frame are best. dan hufferd 1
MrGiggles Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Just my opinion, a standard bar on the lower unit has the most leverage on the motor, and therefore provides the best support. -Austin
Walcrabass Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Gotta agree with Fishinwrench...................... He's Da Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Walcrabass dan hufferd 1
Dutch Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I had my last rig 14 years with a 225 on it. I used a Lock n Haul on it. I never had an issue.
