A friend of mine has been skunked for 2019 so I took him to see if we could get the stink off.  We fished below Cape with A rigs and never had a bite.  So I headed up to Pt 15.  Tried a few baits in that area no nothing so we went up to the area where I had success last week.  We fished the area where my partner from last week and I had caught 35 with 8 keepers and only had one bite and it was on a worm.

Left and went to Flat Creek to see if the A rig would work.  He caught 2 and I lost 1.  No more action in that area so we started working our way back to the truck.  We hit a few likely looking places and found some fish on 2 of them.  All of the fish in these spots came on the A rig.  We boated 5 off these banks and had several short hits.  We totaled with 11 bass only 3 nice keepers.  I saw lots of crappie boats but only saw 2 fish caught all day long.

I'm thinking the polar vortex had something to do with the bite, at least I hope so because I am going back Monday to find out.  The water temp had dropped 5° since last week.

At least he got the stink off for the beginning of 2019.

@Dutch i know it was not as fruitful a trip as you would have liked. Congrats on helping a friend get that first fish of the year in the boat! Sounds like you worked for those bites.

@Dutch what's your rod/reel setup for the A-rig?

I have 2.  I use a Falcon Cara H 7' and a B&R Outlaw 7'  the reels are Shimano Curado G5s spooled with 50# Power Pro.  I throw home made A rigs.

They aren't much.  This is just some electric fencing wire with some Bondo poured into a mold and some blades and heads.  Later I got some real wire forms when Battlefield Wire was in business.

I wonder if stainless tig wire would work?

I have no idea.  I quit using the electric fence wire because it had to be reshaped after every fish.

You might try the wire from the survey stakes (like Dig-Rite uses). You can find them in hardware stores or online.
