timinmo Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 Yeah I had the same problem. I really wanted to send you a PM but could not. In any case. I have an older aluminum canoe that I do not have room to store. It is an Appleby? brand. It is not a livery canoe and actually is in pretty good shape, not prefect. I am not going to go out in the rain to take pictures. What it will do is get you or anyone else out on the water. It has went with my son to a couple different Army bases and been down countless rivers in Missouri. The last few years it has seen use once a year on Operation Clean Stream as a loaner for people who do not have a canoe. It has years of service ahead of it. I would like to get $100. Anyone interested can call me at 838=579=0126. Once again this is not a "junk" canoe and will serve someone for a long, long time. snagged in outlet 3 1

I was simply responding to the original poster about what fits our needs and asking ness if he had ever been in one? That and talking about camping. To each his own and I am not trying to change your minds. Have you been in a fishing kayak one @ness. Also I have seen your nice new ride. Pictures please of it in there with hatch closed. That rig is too nice to slide a canoe in IMO. I know you are not asking but a small trailer would be nice. Yes canoes make great transportation. Our first natives and our first settlers and trappers did just that, BilletHead You’re obviously enjoying your kayaks and you showed us you can catch fish from them. I have not fished from one. I expressed an opinion as to why they’re popular and why a kayak isn’t for me. Nothing personal. My canoe goes on top, not inside. John

Got that and why I asked is my friend Mrs. BilletHead said you can fish from hers sometime. You may have to check your man card somewhere because it has a couple flower stickers on it . Yes, it is easy to hop out of a canoe just as it is a SOT. Getting back in is a different story. A SOT kayak gunwale is a few inches off the water surface...maybe 6” on my Coosa HD. A canoe is in the 10-12+ inch range. That’s a big difference when trying to sling your leg over in any depth of water. I have hopped back onto my kayak in waist deep water. That would have been impossible on a canoe without tipping. Even if I made it in, I’d be filling it up with water that would need to be bailed out later. This is especially useful when fishing upstream. I can wade quietly with the kayak tied to my waist. When it gets too deep, I pop back in and paddle. I have done the stadium seat thing on canoes. It’s nowhere near the comfort of a GOOD kayak seat. Half the time the stadium seats come lose, but even if you get one that fits tight, they aren’t adjustable like kayak seats and don’t have near the back support. You also can’t pull them out and use them to sit on the ground like a lawnchair during lunch or overnight. Horizontal rod storage is probably a tie. Kayaks like the Coosa HD have horizontal storage for one rod in each side but you can actually put 4 in there and those four will stay there even if you tip. Then you can fit 3 comfortable (up to 5) between your legs. Al, I’m curious why kayaks you’ve tried? Have you used any quality ones like a Jackson Coosa, Coosa HD, Cuda, etc., Sea Ghost, Predator Bonafide, etc. etc. It’s not the same experience as a “fishing” kayak from a Walmart or a big retail sporting goods store. I've been in several of those you mentioned. Yes, the seats are reasonably comfortable, but the high seat arrangement made me a little uncomfortable and the lower seat setting was terrible. I do not like the way everything kinda sits on top of the craft rather than inside it. Makes it necessary to strap more stuff down or put it in hatches rather than just have it sitting in front of you. As for getting in and out, I find it a LOT more difficult to get in and out (or off and onto) a SOT in the situations where I'm most likely to want to enter or exit the craft. Like I said before, if you're always mounting and dismounting in more than a foot of water, the SOT is great. But 99% of the time when I get into or out of the canoe, it's at the bank when the canoe is sitting on the gravel. In water that shallow, it's the difference between getting up from a seated position on the floor, as opposed to getting up from a chair. A moving floor! I hate it. As for seating in canoes, the best solution is go go with one of the commercially available seat backs, not stadium seats, that attach to the canoe solidly, and then experiment with various cushions for your rear until you find the right balance of firmness and give. Closest thing commercially available that does it all that I've found is the Sitbacker, but I made my own seat back that has a four position adjustable angle to the back. Like somebody said, different people have different priorities. If standing to fish is important to you, a solo canoe isn't for you. If you like a lot of gee gaws and tricked out boats, a canoe isn't for you. If convenient storage and high capacity is important, a canoe is better. If you get out and wade to fish a lot, kayak might be better. If you're carrying your boat on racks, a canoe is a lot easier to handle--not only lighter in weight to lift, but also easier to grip and handle solo. The canoe may be easier to flip, depending upon the design, so that's another facet of personal preference--if you don't have good balance, you might want to go with the most stable kayak you can find. But keep in mind that regarding performance, everything depends upon the shape of the bottom, and not whether you paddle it with a double blade or single blade. I use both in either craft. When I have fished from a kayak, I use a short single blade for all my maneuvering as I'm fishing, and only use the double blade to get through tricky riffles and cover territory in long, dead pools. In the canoe, I use the single blade exclusively when drifting downstream, but if I want to paddle upstream I use a double blade. I have nothing against kayaks...I now own five of them, though none is strictly a fishing kayak. For me, a canoe is by far the better choice. tjm and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
timinmo Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Top-dollar, Sorry it should read 636 area code. Got to remember to proof read. Give me a call or text. I will warn you that until the rain stops or it freezes up we will not be able to get it out for a bit.
Gavin Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Think you have a boat! Would be fun to do a OA canoe kayak try out day. Load your boats & bring them. Plan to stay overnight. Daryk Campbell Sr, top_dollar and snagged in outlet 3 2 1
