Flysmallie Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 I used a Zebco 33 until my Uncle took it away from me, handed me a baitcaster, and told me I needed to quit fishing like a child at the old age of 8. It wasn’t until I was in 8th grade before I got my first spinning rod. I just feel like I have better control with a baitcaster. The changing hands deal is a non issue for me and I can cast further than I need to. dan hufferd 1
Old plug Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Well Been bait casting since reels even had free spool. I do not think the new reels are all that. I have 2 or three. They might be expensive but most are cheaply made. The whole thing is accuracy with me. I think bait casters are more accurate in the hands of those who can use them. I still cast when I need to. Other then flipping and pitching about 50% of my fishing is straight down. dan hufferd 1

Now Tell me all about the rest of the setup your casting to 47 yards with.By that I mean line, test, weight your throwing length of your rod and its action .If I sound like I doubt you I do and also the picture of someone allegedly casting 450ft
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 MY compact Daiwa Tatula only holds about 70 yard of 20lb. Thats what i use for jigs. 50 yards is a good cast
rps Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Fun thread. Some of you may remember that I dislike spinning reels so much that I made a casting rod for my Ned fishing. With the right reel (a Revo MGX) I regularly fish 1/16th heads on the Ned. The reason I dislike the spinning reel is the inevitable line twist and the inability to make certain casts accurately and precisely. That difficult stems from two factors. First, casting with a flat arc when needed is way more difficult. Second is stopping the lures flight immediately when needed. I also find them easier to use on windy days (except into the wind) and I can use my thumb and move the rod tip to affect the direction of the cast. However, as like some comments above, I have been using them since I inherited a Shakespeare President without free spool. MoCarp 1

I don't want to sound like an idiot (too late) Here is my little set up: lews speed spool ss1s hla , line: 20 lb spiderwire stealth braid , rod : daiwa aird 661 mxb. 1/2 oz lead sinker. I don't have one of those fancy rubber casting thingys. There is a slight cross wind here, just now casting across the wind 1st cast set tight 27 yrs. jacked with it a little, second cast 42 yrs no backlash, 45 yrs for the 3rd with a slight cross wind. tried one more really chucked it this time, broke my line, so I must have had a back lash that I reeled over. Anyway I am still practicing, I know that I am green at this. I guess I was just trying to set this thing up and find the limit, it sounds like mid to low 40s is it.
Gavin Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 Dunno, but I have more line problems with spin gear than I do with my casters. The Occasional backlash is easier to deal with than line twist.

If I get hungry I am sure not going to fish for my food, if I do I won't be casting anything at them.
