My not quite 3 year old Nitro trailer needs new bunks.  What wood will last the longest?

I used some water rated pressure treated 2x4's when I replaced mine and bought some bunk carpet off Amazon to cover them.  Stapled it on with some stainless staples.  I've seen guys use 2x4 composite decking material covered in the bunk carpet too and that would last pretty much forever or until the carpet wears out.

Here's the bunk carpet I bought.  I think I needed 2 rolls for the two bunks on my Tracker. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XBFBZ0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just use CCA treated lumber, and only cover the top and sides with carpet, leaving the bottom uncovered so it drys out quicker.

If you want to make it last as long as possible then pre-drill and paint the bunks (2 coats) before you carpet them.

Thanks.  I did not know that there was bunk carpet.  Is that different from regular turf from a carpet shop?

That sounds like a good idea wrench.

The only thing that I saw that may be different is its UV resistant and is similar to what was on there originally.

Most Marine outlets will have bunk carpet in rolls 8 or 11 inch wide.  It makes the job of covering the bunks go quick and easy.    Whoever wraps all the presents at Christmas time in your house will gladly take the job. 😊

One of my fishing partners has a commercial stapler.  That should make the job easier.

You should glue the top side of the bunk. Keeps the carpet in place better and reduces risk of bunching or stretch.

Otherwise, everything everyone else said

Yeah if your doing it "professionally" then glue is good....BUT the truth of the matter is that bunk carpet is only gonna last 3-4 years tops whether you glue it or not, and glue just makes replacing it a major PIA.

Better IMO to be able to just rip it off and recover them lickety-split.  Just take a stapler and a pair of scissors to the boat ramp....and boom, DONE
