If I go to the latter, I will post what the ramp is like. Mike You know how old and beat up I am. A high courtesy dock would be a challenge.
liphunter Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 That's ok Dutch. I just remember what my proctologist always tells me. Getting old ain't for sissies. Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
Old dog 417 Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 This is how Ruark Boat Ramp area looked today, Wednesday 7/17. I was able to launch and not have to get my feet wet (yay!!) and even though the courtesy dock was higher than I would have liked it was tolerable. If they would push the dock out so the metal walk ramp was at water's edge it would reduce the height a bunch. I don't know when or how often they move it but perhaps a call to the COE office would help. Not a lot of traffic at the ramp today or on the lake but I did have the pleasure of meeting Liphunter who was also going to take current pics for Dutch and this thread. Typical of this forum...just ask and someone, or two, or more will respond. Today's results: 2- 16" walleyes and 2 bluegill. All were released. Bottom bouncers/crawlers, silver smile blade, 20' channel point. WT: 84 Wind SW at 10 mph Sunny and hot. 90 degrees at 11 AM. Tight lines, od "eyes"haveit, nomolites, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 4
Old dog 417 Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Add on to the above post... Toilet is no longer under water but was locked up. The user fee box is high and dry now also. od Daryk Campbell Sr and Rootman 2
liphunter Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Launched around 6:30 this morning at Ruark. My plan was to continue to try to develop a walleye skill, So far I've just developed a rash. But I'm hopeful. Before I did I wanted to give an hour or sole beating the brush for bass. I just picked a spot that looked good on the sons creek side and keeping it somewhat small. I was throwing a 1/2 oz white an red Strike King tandem spinner bait, no trailer. I would pitch it under the canopy and in the gaps. It went fairly well for about 45 mins. Then it started to fizzle out. Caught 1-17 inch, 2-16 inch, one that just made 15 inches. And a bonus 12 inch crappie. All swam away somewhat irritated. Then I went somewhere else to not catch walleye. nomolites, Old dog 417, Rootman and 1 other 4 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
Dutch Posted July 17, 2019 Author Posted July 17, 2019 Hey guys thanks for the reports. The dock looks doable. Congrats on the fish catching. OD any time you don’t want the walleye I’ll be glad to take them off your hands.😜 Old dog 417 1
Rootman Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Thanks for the ramp pics and update. Been about a month since had the boat out, am afraid it sitting in my yard so long it is going to rust! Be heading up there next week to give the fishing a try.
Dutch Posted July 18, 2019 Author Posted July 18, 2019 Heading out at 5 going to try to beat some of the heat. Weatherman said it will be worse down there because of the difference in altitude. We’ll see.
JCreek Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Heat index was 114 yesterday north of the lake. Haven't heard from any neighbors today. Suspect they all died. Heat index was invented in 1978. Since I was a kid many years before that, we picked up hay bales, fished, rode bikes and played ball in 100 deg heat. Can't do that anymore because of the heat index. Darn. Darn. Yep and in August had 7am. football practice, hauled alfalfa hay during the day, then went back to evening football practice. No one thought about it being out of the ordinary nor did anyone have AC.
